I am having a discussion with a landowner who has a private strip.
He says he is worried about this or that as he doesn't want to get the FAA out there for a ramp check on a certain bird that only flies from his private field and lands at that same private field.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the FAA is NOT the police, and they do not have the authority to perform a Ramp Check on an aircraft that is on a privately owned field that is NOT a listed "airport or Heliport" accepting federal funds.

Now suppose the land owner petitions the FAA to become a listed Airstrip on the Sectional and maybe even has a Unicom would that change the answer?

This of course is all just hypothetical talk, but suppose you had an old Luscombe that has not been flown in years, but the Land owner just decided to rebuild the plane and go through it from top to bottom but rather than get it all annualed, and N numbered just decided to fly it as an illegal ultrlight (I know what I am asking) with no insurance and no papers or airworthiness (he is a licensed pilot) but only stayed within the confines of his property, can he get in trouble with the FAA?

I am not going to take your answers for gospel or give legal advise, just curious....

It's the federal government, they do what they want.
Most cases no, but if they believe suspicious activity is taking place they can and will enter your property at will.
The only reason I know is they have done it down here during the Pot smuggling days

Seems like that would be an enforcement not a compliance issue.

Unless they are receiving federal funds or using a Federal service the FAA has no jurisdiction on private property -

Pvt property class G airspace to Pvt property you're good to go....


If you have a wreck on private property with the owners machine not for hire - No one will visit you.....

The FAA is more interested in complexity points [retirement ] and protecting the nonparticipating public.

They hate paperwork more then you do.

I know of a certain Cessna with no numbers a motorcycle seat for the pilot that cruises out of a corner of a field once in a blue moon, It's been seen around other places and has never been ramp checked in 40 years.....
