I wonder if that Huey as E-AB had a LODA for its commercial operation?
If so, you'd think it had 100 hour inspections.

Quote:
Investigators determined the loss of power was due to the failure of an engine component.

What was that?

Bell UH 1 criteria 25 hour, 50 hour, 100 hour 300 hour inspections
Daily, 30 day 60 day & annual inspections Depending on Inspection plan add 5 year and other inspections

Repack hanger bearing splines 25 hour
Repack main Drive shaft 300 hours
:pbunny
With a bore scope you can see everything on a T 53 - Compressor & Power Turbine a flash light and a mirror
Oil filter, Fuel servo screen, Fuel nozzles and bleed band are scheduled.

No excuses for failures like this... Criminal Neglect on all parties FAA & operator owner

"If it flies, then it must be airworthy!"...is the philosophy of too many operators.
Why check something every 30 hours if it can be checked at the 60 or 100 hour inspections, that sort of thing.
It'll eventually bite somebody in the ass. Never cut corners....

I remember John being SO excited to be flying that old relic.
It was his 2nd or third year back at the re-union.

So tragic - he was great pilot & got caught by bad maintenance - in an unforgiving area for low-level flight emergency!
The area they went down seemed to be off the usual route for landable areas ... bloody "Tiger-country" !

I was thinking of him & Sooyhin recently & how they came up to celebrate Jim's life-celebration & how gutted he was about our loss of Farmer Jim!
