Gyro trailer. I picked up a used trailer/camper, now I have to get ready for Bensen Days, and will be able to bring Mama Gyro with me....have some work to do for blade racks, winch/hoist etc..

Yep it should work out just fine, Not going to tow the new gyro in the rain on an open trailer, seems like I get caught driving in the rain at least 50% of the time doing the Bensen days thing.

Plus the camper rental dude now charges about $1000 a week, (has to be competitive with all the Disney rentals, I understand)

Hey Els, I saw your posts on the other board and lo and behold there was a photo of the "White Elephant" trailer I built! Thought it was scrap by this time, but it had some updated bits on it.

Sure did learn a lot about trailering a gyro as we wen't along building that one.

What ever way you decide to secure your gyro in the trailer, make SURE you don't block and brace the frame....
I prefer fat straps locked on the tires only, but my rig was easy to do that with.
Ask Dave B about our trip to Spanish Forks, his engine mount cracked due to road bumps!

Yeah I know trailering is hard on them, The trailer I have has the torsion axles, so that will help with the ride some.
I plan on strapping it down by the gear legs right near the wheels.

The best way to strap a Tango is to bolt hold-down eyelets on either side of the nose wheel. Then run one strap up along the wheel, over the frame and back down, securing the nose and using the tire as cushion and uplift against the strap. Next take one strap on one side the trailer at a point outside the main gear wheel, 2' behind the mast and run it to the mast at the lowest point where it connects to the frame, go once around the mast, then to a like point 2' behind the mast on the other side of the trailer. Now do the same 2' in front of the mast. This creates an "X" and pulls down slightly against the gear and tires. The wrap around the mast prevents side-slip. You can lose any 1 strap and still remain stable. Lose any 2 straps and you aren't in serious trouble, but you need to stop.

I've done some SERIOUS travel this way and haven't lost or damaged a machine yet.

The last time I trailered down for Bdays there was a crack in the engine mount. so much for flying that trip. I dont strap the frame down but secure the Dom by the gear legs. I still had damage.

There are certainly different methods for different machines. I can see strapping the frame with a squishy gear as the beginning of a battle between the straps and the frame. Regardless, gyros... or really, all aircraft... hate trailers.

Here is a pic of our Tinyhome and Trailer. Laura and I are planning a trip out to Utah and flying over some of the Iconic landscapes like Arches, Moab, Canyonlands, etc. The Trailer has a tunnel on top. I winch the machine in with the blades attached. Then remove the teeter bolt and store the blades above the machine. When its time to fly I lower the blades onto the head put in the bold and back it out. We took it to Anson County this fall and with the help of Chris Buchanan and Dan Boone, fine tuned the process.
