No I don't think so. There were a lot of good looking gyros there though.
Slow Joe has built a real ultralight. With a 37HP paramotor.
Weights in at 219 lbs with everything on it!
It is a clean and simple build.
I didn't take a picture of it damn it!!!!
I got distracted..... Shit.
Sorry guys. I am sure someone did though.
Maybe Scotty. He actually had a real camera and not just a cell phone like me.

1st place 2 place, this thing was nice! Eric Bruce's 2 seat 1st gen Tango, with rotax 914 turbo, very nice and clean engine installation!
Proves the Tango can look as good as the rest with a little finesse.
By the way the new Tangos really have improved, they are getting better all the time.

I like the idea alot.... I don't know if y'all remember I asked if anyone had used a bike motor with the bike clutch and gearbox ages ago.... :like :koolaid

We were laughing about changing down a gear to pass other aircraft... :laughing

I personally would be running it without a boot, just leave the CV joint open.... the CV turns alot faster on the gyro than in a car.... the boot on a car is to keep dust and rocks out of the joint.... a gyro isnt really subject to rocks and dust.... and it can be serviced along with the normal 25 hour maintenance.... whereas in a car, a CV will do thousands and thousands of miles... even if the boot gets cracked. Because the CV is turning fast, the grease may go to one side and then the boot will fail.... better no boot and minimal grease imo....

On the gyro, the CV stays straight, so it never gets loaded like in a car with the steering turning and suspension changing joint angle.... so the CV gets an easy ride compared to in a car where it is designed for.... for our purpose, this is a fantastic set up.... :first

I was thinking along the lines of these rubber couplings (donuts) like in my imps transmission to half shafts.... or BMW drive (tail) shaft..... because they are always straight, they are immensely strong and dont require grease.... and rubber means insulation for the prop to the motor gearbox output shaft.... :)

The modern bike motor/transmissions are very reliable... almost indestructible when serviced.... they can handle spinning on tar, rough gear changes.... huge shocks from changes in grip and potholes etc.... plus, you buy the motor and usually cut off the gearbox... then buy an expensive propeller gearbox..... why not use the bike motor gearbox....

I am all for this, about time someone tried it.... kudos! :half

If he cut the boots off the CV and wiped the grease off of it, I would trust that setup for sure.... :bigballs

I hope he continues thru the teething problems.... maybe look at these.... :like :koolaid :lick

I am so glad I have seen it done now.... that answered all of my questions. I like it that the motor can be warmed in neutral with the prop not being driven.... in the event of a motor stopping in flight, it can be put in neutral so the prop can free spin and not cause drag.... it is light weight, compact, powerful beyond its horsepower because of the gearing, reliable (near indestructible when serviced), gears dont need to be used in flight, one ratio will be best motor to prop reduction.... so set and forget during preflight..... I cant really see anything other than plusses :pop

Me likes! :yoda2 :Wolvie :maga
