Very cool Thanks!
The rotary seems like it would be the perfect aviation engine, small, light, powerful, smooth,
They just haven't come up with the right one yet.
I have been watching this one....

Just imagine if you could replace a 50 HP rotax 503 with a 50 Hp rotary that weighs about 60 lbs!

My favorite car that I had a year or two after I got my driving license back in South Africa was a Mazda RX-2 Coupe. It was fast as hell and sounded like a wet fart. Overall pretty reliable except to change the engine seals once.

That is funny, I just downloaded another youtube and saw that one... I had just downloaded it, but not looked at it yet :)

The only downfall of the wankel engine for aircraft is the gas consumption... and they dont have alot of torque... but gearing can fix that. Also, alot of people dont realise that rotaries meter oil out of the sump to lubricate the side seals 2 stroke style. I was mad on rotaries in the 80's... I even rebuilt my own. I used to either premix castrol R30 (2 stroke oil) in the gas, or disconnect the little hose from the sump to a bottle of R30.... it smelled awesom (although the people following had tears in their eyes) :eek :noidea

My favorite was my white R100 with the 13B bridge port.... that was scary fun .... my favorite bit was the flames out of the exhaust when you back off :)

I remember passengers faces looked a bit like these people in a 700Hp honda civic.... :pop

I just looked at the video Lofty.... awesome! :maga :yoda2 :Wolvie

Here is what I tried to describe in another rotary thread or two...

This video shows the components and assembly of a 2 rotor RX8 motor...

It is 38 minutes, but well worth watching :) :koolaid :lick :pop

After watching this, you will almost understand rotaries :like :yoda2 :Wolvie
