Sorry Gabor, same thing happened to me about 12 years ago. Was with the same place for almost 20 years, I had no plans on leaving there, was happy and doing a great job. I had just literally the week before bought a new house and didn't see this coming either. I was equally devastated, it was the longest drive home I can ever remember. Long story short, I am in a much better place now, with a better salary then I ever could have grown into at the old place.
So I think sometimes things happen for a reason (other than the owner is a dick), and I'm quite sure that in a little while you'll not only be on your feet again, but in a better situation.

Gabor.........I can assure you that often when a door is shut, another door opens, and bigger opportunities come through .
I have had a different situation with doors closing on me. The big difference is I shut the door myself forcing the new opportunities to come my way.
The first door I shut was working for my dad as a farmer. I had a good secure future, but did not like farming. So after 15 years I shut the door and answered an add for a carpenter wanted. I never was happier in my life. I ended up getting the dream job of being a trim carpenter for Champaign, Il premier home builder, Hallbeck Homes.
After ten years there, having the best trim carpenter job in the area, 52 weeks overtime offered, steady work, prestigious company, benefits, I SHUT the door again, walked away from the best job I ever had, and went on my own in 1997. Haven't regretted it since.
My point is that if you have someone else shut the door on yourself, or you shut the door on yourself, it forces you either way to find new opportunities that full employment prevented you from obtaining.
Gabor, you are probably one of the hardest working people I know,.and you are VERY intelligent, far more than I am. You will find creative uses for your skills. You are a survivalist from your beautifully told stories in Hungary, and getting your wife and daughter out of communism.
Your mission is far from over.

Thank you Stan! I think you know something.... As of today I have a new and better job. AlphaGraphics is my new ride! They do everything from vinyl to large format. So Jon as for your tail numbers....I will be able to make those!!!! Anyways. This owner of the company invited me once to drop by. And that's just what I did today. So I asked him if he knew anyone in the printing industry that was looking for a pressman with about 30 years experience and a slight Hungarian accent. He turned to me he said I would hire you in an instant if I needed a person here. He said you are worth gold! So when I told him that my boss casually sold the business he kind of thought for a second and asked me if I was willing to learn digital technology. I knew I had a job! And so here I go. Onto a modern technology and a wider variety of things. I am a lucky bastard....now the guy he is firing is not so much! But such is life. This is my open door right now. And I am walking right through it!!!! Thank you guys for all the positive inspiration. I did take a pay cut but the place is awesome and with full time work I will be OK. I haven't had a 40 hour week in 5 years! Sooooooo all is good and I am excited to learn new things.

Congrats, Gabor. When I began reading this thread, I felt an increasing sorrow - suddenly all was even better than before Good luck with your new job/life... Cheers Erik

Thank you Erik. I was officially let go today. Since I am not in the bridge burning business I told him that I can come and work for him after I am done with my main job and he can pay me cash! He loved the idea. Well I am going to be doing better than I thought... WOOHOOO. Life's grand!

Im the exact opposite Gabs, I perscribe to the Yosemit Sam model of bridge tactics..."Ifin I can't use it , nobody can!"
I woulda burned that fuckin bridge to the ground! 26 years and not a word? Fuck you, well see how your buisness deal does when I piss in the punch bowl!" Take out a full page ad telling every local what a shit he was and not to do buisness with that kind of company!!!!
But....I dont often get call backs either....there MAY be a connection.

Well....it's not the "new guy's" fault. I can't be mad at him buying a company. It's the old owner that was a fucking weasel. Anyways. I still have one more iron in the fire. I did drop off a resumé at the Daytona Beach News Journal as they were looking for pressman for the big web press. They are rather large organization and pretty steady. Kind of security for a steady W2! So I might even hear from them too. I know I won't be flying for a living. That boat has sailed about 8-9 years ago. Aviation is becoming very unstable. I see their ads weekly for positions. But I know who takes them..... the kids in uniform with a silver stripe on their epaulets speaking Urdu!

But....I dont often get call backs either....there MAY be a connection. I'm with you Benry.... same as if I try to sell something and cant, I smash it before I take it to the tip... so no one can find it and use it... Once I had a rare front fender for sale for $25 and a guy drove 2 hours to come and get it, then, once here, he said he would only give me $5 for it and not a penny more... So I finally said "sure" and stepped towards him to get the $5 and stepped on the fender which phucked it completely ... then I picked it up and threw it over the embankment and went inside.... I would rather get nothing for it than let him low ball me on it.... But... on the same hand, if a friend wanted it, I would give it to him (and help him fit it to his car) .... I got more than $25 worth of entertainment watching his face when I stepped on the fender he wanted so bad, and he had to drive 2 hours home again.... with no fender He thought he was pretty smart until then.... I am also an expert grudge holder.... got a real long memory as well

I held a grudge for 20+ years. When we moved in, our neighbour lied to me to get to remove a large, old tree, that had a long branch, which annoyed him. It was hurting one of his trees.
I gave it to him. But my wife was in tears, when it fell. And next day I discovered he had told me a lie (about fence rules).
And that destroyed our relationship.....
Last year I forgave him - karma must've gotten to him. He's got some Ischias nerve disease, so his ass is hurting and he can hardly walk. I couldn't be mad at him anymore.
It was a great relief forgiving him. We now have a great community with a few yearly parties and a common shelter area is underway.
And in 2½ weeks I'll be driving to Stockholm in my new car with my youngest daughter for company. I'm going there to finally pick up the aluminum for my Gyrobee build.
Cheers Erik
