This picture was taken this afternoon by a member of Peach State Rotorcraft's "fixed-wing resistance" from the parking lot at the Mexican Restaurant where we sometimes have lunch when we are gathering at the airport (Cedartown/Polk County 4A4). It is a raw image that has not been manipulated. The parking lot is 4 miles due East of the airfield and the shot is due West. Anyone up for a little IFR?

There is absolutely no problem flying in that Jon? What is wrong with you?

You can fly in your car.... a bus, on a skateboard, bike.... or even on foot (or off foot) :eek

In fact, flying is a breeze in weather like that :noidea

Only thing is, perhaps the landings might be a little harder to control than normal...

Especially if you are in a combine harvester or a bus? :badluck :laughing :trup :yoda2 :Wolvie

Ouch, that looks like something from one of the doomsday movies.

Cheers

The afore-imaged storm produced a lot of lightening. One particularly significant strike hit the runway at 4A4, causing a large crack, a splotch of melted tarmac and two softball-size holes. It also melted one of the runway border lights. I was very impressed!

You guys have had the wackiest weather this week, I was in Cartersville yesterday, we had engine running at 0800, nice calm smooth air, took off and turned west pow! a thunderstorm just to the west, AWOS said nothing about it, we went back to the hangar and waited it out as another one popped up.
Once they were gone we flew for an hour, clouds were low and wind had picked up to about 20 mph at altitude, :dizzy

I got the flying in the wind thing down now after my first 2 hours in the plank wing.

You will be right in no time Scotty.... how do those things stall? Do they mush or try to turn over?

Do they give you any advance warning? Or, do they do like Nike and....

Just do it? :laughing

Like, a 150 tends to shake a bit... then drop a wing... and you don't really know which until one drops... and once it stalls, the ailerons don't help, they hinder...

I remember the Grummans... they would just mush from nose up to level-ish, then the nose would come up again... wings stayed fairly level unless one did something too silly... A very nice stall... :like

Are they able to do any mild aerobatics like spiral dives or anything like that? :noidea

I used to love doing them in the 150 aerobat ... nearly pull your face off :laughing :yoda2 :Wolvie

Making not crashing airplanes great again :maga

Nope, no aerobatics in this one, it stalls nice and slow, just gets mushy and drops the nose,, apply power and all is good, at first I was dropping the nose too much, like diving in the gyro to gain airspeed, but as soon as the wings are level and you apply power it flys again.
We had high winds both days, didn't help much with landings etc, but I got the hang of keeping it where I wanted it to go while getting pushed around by the wind, I requires more rudder and more stick pressure that the gyro, :laughing
I told her that I didn't mind training in the wind, need to get used to it sooner or later.

did some slips too, no flaps. The stall speed is about 36 mph.

It's going well, just the weather has been so fickle for the last month or so makes it hard to get some good days.

Here is the one I am training in.

I like the color too, I am comfortable with my manhood....
I should let Mary pick the color for mine, I really hate white white airplanes and motorcycles...yeech!

Or are they poop stains? :noidea

Are you going to paint yours? ..... When you were taxying yours, did you accidentally get it off the ground? :laughing woops! :pop :yoda2 :Wolvie
