That flying Nissan was the funniest thing I had ever been through....I thought I was going to throw up laughing. Everytime I think about it, I burst out laughing. Then there we were fixing that Nissan so John could take it back to the rental place so that it wouldn't be rejected. ......and it passed! OMG. .
I may have to tell the whole story again.

I was in the car and that was one of the funniest thing I have been through. We were going to dinner and there was a long line of cars going slow so John decided to go around them. We came to the end of the hangers and saw a berm without hesitation John punches it and up the bank we went into the air not knowing there was a ditch on the other side. We were all laughing so hard and did not care about what was about to happen, the front of the car came down first and stuck like a lawn dart, the back of the car came down and John stabs the gas instantly again not wanting to lose are place in line. We made it to dinner and all was good. We pulled about 40lbs of dirt and grass out of the grill.

Thanks for posting those pictures Gabor! That was the funniest moment I have ever had....and it lasted for days! Can you believe the shade tree body shop fixed that car so it passed the return inspection? Then John calls the rental place after flying his ass to California, and tells them the "rest of the story". $3600-3700 damage.
We hammered it out...jerked on it with chains against an I-beam....then the lower plastic air dam.had wrinkles in it. I drilled tiny holes for a web like structure of safety wire....then even painted the shiny safety wire flat black.
The perfect crime....

I think I mentioned before a while back, I did something similar, but completely different back in the 1980's. I had a Mazda RX3 4 door 12A auto and a friend and I went to Woolongong south of Sydney, in our own cars, he had an Isuzu station wagon we called a 'Gemini'
It was a Sunday morning, about 6am and we went over a table top bridge over a train line, he went over first with me behind, then we did a U turn to go back and do it again as it was fun getting the cars off the ground (we used to go looking for good roads with suitable 'launch ramps') .... anyway, we went over the other direction, then did another U turn to do it properly
Anyone who knows how well a Mazda rotary goes, will understand that I overtook Vince in 2nd (auto) and launched off the bridge/ramp doing about 130kph and missed the table top of the bridge entirely, landing on the down side on the other side... I landed back left wheel first.... next to a parked car
I had noticed from the whining of the motor on the run to the bridge, to taking off and suddenly everything went quiet??.... until the impact... (I mean, the landing) and the bang followed by thump thump thump noise as I kept going to the car park at the beach....
We pulled up in the carpark at Towradgy beach, where we were going in the first place.... I got out of my car and went back to Vinces car and found him hysterical.... he actually had tears coming out of his eyes he was laughing so much (I had never actually seen someone so hysterical, I actually thought he was hurt??) and I couldn't understand a word he was saying.... but with his hands he was trying to show how I hit 'the ramp' and how it landed.... The thumping noise was a strip of tread from the tire... the car landed left side low, back end low.... so as the left rear tire touched down, the leaf spring let the tire hit the front of the wheel arch peeling 8" of one row of tread.... the trunk lid had popped open then slammed itself.... and the diff center (oil plug) had gouged a 2 yard scratch in the tar from the center hitting the ground.... the diff center is 6" off the ground when parked (normally) so the diff has flexed down hard enough to hit the ground.... the rear left wheel had negative camber after this.... My seat had punched the back mounts on the floor, thru the floor, and my girlfriends seat had ratcheted back like she was laying back and one of her back seat mounts punched thru the floor....
From the top of the 'ramp' to where the big gouge started on the other side was 60 yards Vince said he had jammed on his brakes following me and watched me take off, his car was driving down the down side and he was looking at the air under my car, then saw a huge spark come off the diff and the trunk lid open and slam itself closed (The bang I heard|)
The things one does when they are young..... How old were you in the Nissan John?
Remember, we drive on the left.... steering wheel on the right side..... the pics show the launch ramp, although it has been resealed many times and it looks like they have changed the steepness of the ramp it never used to peak in the middle so much, it was ramp up.... table top, ramp down?.... but you get the story.... the pic with the stair shop and the top of the bridge were looking east (the way we were going) and the landing pad pic was looking back west at the takeoff point

Those airbags had to almost went off. We lawn darted into the bank, and just like Bacon mentioned....John got on the gas and powered out of the ditch turning onto the roadway. I was on my cellphone before , during, and after this ditch jumping event...with Tim O'Connor. I was laughing so hard, Tim thought I was nuts. Then after John straightened the car out and accelerated to gain better track position in "The Great Race" to Solomans Castle....I noticed the hood was ajar and crooked. I said to John.."The front end has to be messed up"....while laughing with tears. John responded so matter of factly....."Oh, there isn't any damage"
I actually thought I was going to throw up I was bent over laughing so hard at the absurdity of this....and I am still talking to Tim on the phone this whole time. Tim didn't have a clue what we were going through, and all he KNEW was that I had obviously lost my mind!.
Then, as if this story doesn't need anymore, we get to the exit at the airport to the line of cars that were going to Solomans Castle. Gabor comes back and says something like....What the FUCK is going on here? The way he said that, and how close I was to totally losing my mind, I bent over just about ripping my abs out laughing so hard, and feeling I was going to leave some armadillo chow alongside the road.
Gabor captured that moment with John extracating sod out of the mouth of the Nissan.
There was a hat salesman at Bensen Days, and we had a hat printed up for John...aka All-in. The hat had a Nissan with a nose down attitude....and it said...All In....A Ditch ...on it.
John to this day keeps that hat on his mantle. Gabor, please post a picture of that hat if you can find it!
There is more to this story...crazy John driving 105 mph down 17 coming to Bensen Days, then Animal getting a whif of Johns fresh lit cigarette, and leaning out the rear window painting a new centerline down highw17. I thought I was going to lose it again. I could just see a line of armadillos and vultures lapping up Animals centerline puke. Then there was the Whoretel we stayed out with cockroaches , gunfire that kept me awake all night. You simply could not make up a funnier chain of events. God, I will go to my grave with this being the craziest , funniest time of my life. PRICELESS

I once launched a truck and trailer so hard and so bad I blew out the leaf springs, bent the frame and cracked the radiator as well as 2 truck tires and two trailer tires and one atv tire on the trialer! Boss said they wanted to fire me for going 90 on a base road marked 20 and what did I have to say for myself? Told him dumb luck I was going 90, if I had been doing 85 I would never have cleared the other bank of the wash and wouud have been dead! Also told him I wasnt paying to repair shit and if they ever wanted a dime back on the truck they better keep me employed for a good long time!
They still tell stories to new guys on the base about truck 877;)
PS. I was insolent because even though I was on an active clearence they opened a firing clearence on my position and when I told them on the radio where I was and that I would vacate on the road I was on.....the range controllers neglected to mention that base security had told them the road was washed away earlier that day! I was full of piss and vinegar when I heard they were "upset" about their fucking truck!!!!
