These look a lot like the American Ranger Gyro's
Author Message
I know they were Apollo's in name B4 American Ranger but I thought Abid's gyro's were the former Apollo's now known
as the AR-1's. Did these guys split off on their own apart from Abid's designs. Just wondering.
Maybe Greg or Abid will chime in.

Ask steve uk.... he knows everything.... :laughing :wol2 :Wolvie

:Confederate

What a shame they all look identical? Same frame, same motor, same geometry, same lack of clearance between prop and rotors, same tri-tail... and the basic shape hasn't altered one bit since Jukka Tavermaki came up with the design of the plastic covering the Bensen frame.... all too heavy if 2 well fed Americans or Aussies get in it? Same faults, same miswritten manuals to cover the faults..... :badluck

So, what is the chronology of the tubs? Jukka made the first one, then who? Autogyro? Then ELA.... that's where I get lost as to who made what next .... although, I think a whole bunch all copied at once....

Man, Rotax must still be grinning?? (all the way to the bank) Kaching kaching....

They are apollo, apollo was the parent company before AR started making them in the states, same thing.

I think Jukka worked with magni, then ELA was the first clone, although it was not a magni copy, then everyone copied ELA, with autogyro being the best at marketing and getting the numbers out there.

I frotax would just build a 150hp engine, oh wait, if someone else would just build an engine to compete with rotax.....at least it would be like lycoming and continental, at least you would have two extremely high priced products to choose from..

An engine manufacturer should build an engine to compete with Rote-TAX and just have molded on the cases/cylinder heads/gearbox.... everywhere "This engine may kill you! Use in aviation at your own risk" .... there goes half of the cost :laughing :wol2 :Wolvie

This is the Apollo. They are apparently being now distributed by Kántás Andor from Lúcia Air.
I don't think they gave up the gyro line yet.
Too much money invested in it and the market is growing here.
The trike line is still strong but more and more people realize the advantages of gyros as they are not grounded due to high wind.
So I am sure after Greg and Abid re-designed the machine they did more than the required 10% change on it and call it the AR1
Perfectly legal. I am not sure the Apollo will take a big bite out of the sales here by having shipping fees on it opposed to having the machine made here and have the technical support here.
Lots of good selling point on the AR1 opposed to the Apollo.
Not to mention the fixes that the original design due to not knowing what the hell they were doing!!!!
I don't mean to talk shit about them but let's say I know a few things about the development of that machine......
A trike is a trike and a gyro is a gyro!!!!
Just because I put a solid rocket booster on a Bensen it won't be a fucking space shuttle!!!!!
Anyways! AR1 hands down. Abid and Greg have a good understanding on the shortcomings of the Apollo and they did an excellent job on fixing them.
I'd buy the AR1 even if it were more expensive then the Apollo....
I know I know....but but but it's Hungarian made....well fuck that!
Buy American!!!!!!!!
MERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which clone-ists change the design by 10% to copy something? Those days are gone.... especially when they are all copied off everyone anyway? It is like the chinese cloning.... well, everything.... they don't bother changing anything.... just photograph the thing, pull it apart and make the pieces as cheaply as possible.... no one cries foul because they are all guilty.... same with the gyros.... anyone would be hard pressed to tell a bare ela frame from an mto.... besides, if there is 10 different clones of the tandem tub.... and each is 10% different from the others, then the last one should be 100% different from the first :noidea :laughing :yoda2 :Wolvie

Well I decided to make a purchase list of potential 2 place gyro's when I am ready to make that jump......2 mths after I solo the Wolverine. So I thought I would research what brand I will get and I came across the Apollo which I thought was Abid's baby.

No one tells me anything anymore except to go to hell. oh well.

maybe I should just get a 2 place helicopter.

If I was in the market for a 2 place heli, it would be the ch-7 compress, or the new swift.

That will work.

Made in America is the main theme. I want something unique and different but hi tech and modern.........

$70k tops.

I spent too much this year on trucks and shit I don't really need.

1 more major purchase and then I have to settle down for about 20 yrs or til I am dead. :laughing :eek
