.

If I had a gyro or heli near Lake Eyre Australia I would do a fly-over grid search for some of these meteorite fragments.

It is a fresh meteorite fall tracked by cameras .... they are worth more than gold per ounce.

They have a black crust which will show up nicely against the sandy lake bottom

That would be cool to find a meteorite.

As long as it does not find you first by screaming through the roof of your house..

No radioactive material found in meteorites , at least not so far ..... but back in 1995 I had bought one from a dealer in the USA and he wrapped it in a bubble pack zip lock type bag with the radioactive symbol on it , still have the bag here somewhere ... good thing they didnt open it at the b.o.r.d.e.r.

Looks like they did use planes and drones to find that one in Aus .... surprising how deep it went in the soupy lake bottom mud. On normal ground they remain on the surface , they come down the same velocity as dropping a rock from a tall building.

Most meteorite hunters use a magnet. Is radioactive material magnetic?

Not always Arnie.... if a meteorite is doing 15845189451491469.1 miles per hour in space and hit out atmosphere, they can either vaporise from friction or hit the ground at well, well above terminal velocity..... that is why when you see a shooting star, they are burning from the friction....

lake Eyre is a salt lake, not unlike your Bonniville.... it was once an inland sea... it is actually below sea level, but the water evaporates.... so it would have been like looking for a rock at bonniville salt flats :realcrazy :dizzy :laughing :yoda2 :Wolvie

I would have thought that NASA would have known exactly where it landed? and the general area before it landed?.... and closer than a 1500 km line? :noidea
