Before pulling off the rotor & packing up for the trip to Anahuac ...we flew to Benton airpark ...AKA Stearman field 1K1 ... give Jim his weekly gyro-fix & have a cuppa coffee! It was atypically VERY quiet & deserted today!! ???? We had a nice chat to our Kansas astronaut ..Sam Gemar ..who is a part owner of the Stearman in these pics! Sam was guest speaker & gave a fascinating talk @ the EAA awards banquet - last week!

Way to go Chris and Jim. I love seeing others experience the joy of flying like I am thankful to have experienced. I keep flying myself just reading your posts....yet have no desire to fly again...go figure?
If we don't make eye contact it is not considered to be gay!

Absolutely brilliant day for some high-performance fall flying. The visibility was amazing .. the distant Wichita downtown buildings .. etched clear on the horizon!
I pre-flighted both OZ'rora & Festey - yesterday ... great day to fly ... but I was strangely weary & with the wind from the west ... having to use 26 is a deal-breaker for me on week-ends - with other traffic using 17-35! Today we collected my niece Bec off the flight from South America-via DFW ( Peru-Bolivia Chile Columbia where she has been the last 6 months treking, climbing & taking yoga course) ... I asked if she'd like to go fly with me this arvo ... you bet! ...so Festey gets the job & poor OZ'rora left behind - again! :(
She did not have her camera ...so used mine to take some shots!
We had a great time - just cruising around over to El Dorado lake - after a few passes over the farm strip ... and landed when Jim came out in the Mule & Jason Shelbie & Shelbie's little sis Laci came out to looksee! 7 kt .... S wind ... a perfect TO - run & climb rate - GREAT ... Bec is about perfect passenger weight to enjoy similar performance - to flying solo ...( with my ballast bags ... to mellow the handling!)

Thank you for the pics and the write up! Awesome place to fly at. Lots of great landing area......I know I know....I am getting old and keep evaluating flying by the landing ability more than I used to I do like that machine a lot. Just has that robust feeling to it. Nice crispy air lots of lift Glad to see you guys enjoying the well deserved pleasure of flying a well built and well performing gyro.
Oh and FJ

No Arnie ... most of the water around here is govt $ assisted watershed capture - erosion control, water conservation pondages and out in the grazing lands - "flint hills" ... cattle water ponds. I'm always amazed when flying over this area ... how many ponds, lakes, dams there ARE!!!!
Yes Gabs ... even the FW,s fly low here ... with LOTS of emergency landing options!

OK here's the latest video ........ last Friday's XC flight in Festey ( a re-run of one I flew alongside Kent in summer 2014) ...... absolutely awesome flying conditions ... the lull before the winter storm rolling through Sat-Sun ... the "advance guard" clouds ... to the W & N were amazing to see!
I was SO sorry that this video didn't upload in the same quality as I can view it on my computer .... I have seen it over & over in the editing process ...and still find something new & cool! The Gopro captured colours textures landscape & cloud patterns & things I never saw - in REAL TIME! I LOVE to relive this flight ....you'll need a good HS Internet & for this one ... it was tough deciding what to chop out ... so I speeded most of the cruise clips to x2 speed!
I also mounted a new Gopro sticky ...in front of the antenna on the nose ... clear view of the scenery!
