Nice!

I was wondering something. You all understand the logic behind flapping a set of blades.
Its easy to do if you are going to fast forward without the blades biting the air.
Retreating blade stall and all that.

Is it possible for that helicopter to out fly the retreating blade?
Or are the blades spinning so fast to prevent that?

Yes it is. The retreating blade stall has nothing to do with being powered or being autorotated. It has to do with airspeed. The faster you fly the closer you get to retreating blade stall. Nose starts pitching up and depending on the direction of the rotation you'll experience losing lift on the retreating side. Heavy frame shake sets in. And you have only a short time to slow down or :realcrazy

This looks similar to the Carter Copter... albeit on a larger scale.

Is this a different group developing the same idea?

The climb rate over the mountains was impressive!

Yeah, I think we all would like to see one at BD's... can you arrange that... LOL

Question: Does it fly like a FW or a rotorcraft... :)

Flies like a helicopter. You need a helicopter license to fly that baby

Cool .... all those engineers remind me of experimental aviators ..... with a big budget !!!!!!

This video says 255 knots (472 km/hr) (293 mph) in level flight on June 7 , 2013

Several days earlier the X3 reached a speed of 263 knots (487 km/hr) (301 mph) during a descent.

This is my favorite design. I know of someone with similar design ideas. I'd love to build one.

Friend of mine (ex student) works at Sikorsky and heavily involved with that project! He says it is an amazing aircraft. But then again.... it's pretty impressive just by watching the damn thing fly so gracefully.

The BIG TIP - ????????!!

COUPLA YEARS AGO, I was 'BuddyBuddy' with the chief test pilot for Carter Copter.

We are currently advisorys in a Lawsuit.

He told me many times that he thot the CC was an EXPENSIVE, DANGEROUS JOKE.

When asked why he flew it, he said CC paid him very well. (TAXPAYER'S DOLLARS)

And that's a FACT, JACK !
