I don't see what the big uproar is all about. They have been trying to get it changed to Denali for 40 years, and it was blocked by politicians from Ohio! Shouldn't the Alaskans be the ones to decide the name? It seems like this is supported by everyone up there, including the Republican led legislature and the two Republican Senators from Alaska.

Well being a true Alaskan myself. I prefer both names. The locals have always called it Denali meaning "Great One" so Obama just did it for the press. Most liberals have never been to Alaska. They only make remarks from pictures and idiots that do not know better.

Yes it should be the Alaskans who decide the name, not the "supreme leader" by executive order....I mean whats next? Changing the name of New Orleans to "Obamaville"?

If the citizens of New Orleans (or any city) want to change the name of their city, where they live, work, and pay taxes, why should someone who is not from there have any say in the matter? I don't live there and don't care if I ever go there again, so I could care less what they call it.
Same for Denali. Did McKinley discover the mountain? Did he climb it, or even visit it? What's his connection to it?
It seems undemocratic to me that the citizens of Alaska would have their wishes blocked by some politicians from Ohio.
Republican politicians at that! The party of small government, liberty, states rights, etc...
The Republican party is as bad as the Democrat party by now. They have managed to completely wipe and blur the differences of the ideology in the modern times. No they don't like the sharp differences anymore and don't like to be defined by anything that takes the actions of taking a stand. They have been conditioned to be PC by the media and the special interest groups who are the key to their money machines. Maybe.....just maybe.....Trump will change that...... One thing is for sure. I have as many so called republican leaders on my shit list as democrats. Sooooo as the sayin' goes: FUCKUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOLVERINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just thought i would throw out a video I shot in my Cessna 7 years ago on a clear day. I was about 14000 msl and Denali was still 20 miles away and another 8000 feet up. at the very end of the clip is a peak of a mountain that is 5500 feet high below me. I know it does not sound like much. But if you have ever been to Denver or Salt lake city it is the equivilant of seeing those mountains from the valley floor. Thats how much higher Denali is. On a clear day you can see it from Anchorage about 200 miles away.
