FIVE ....( now I'm awake & can count ... fix my typos!! HA!) members of PRA Chapter 62 - Anahuac/Houston club made the trip to URA's 2014
Rotor's over the Rockies event @ Brigham city airport KBMG!
Stacy & Barbara(& pooch) drove up ... part of a vacation trip, - Chris flew( commercial) in from Wichita & Danny Whitten & Mike Grosshans flew in from Houston ... I think Dean Dolph also drove across.
I can't believe it is a whole week tonight since my arrival & enjoying being Glenn Kerr's guest ... met me @ SLC airport & we drove up the next day.
The primitive camping lot @ Brigham had a good assortment of rigs there ... Kent had arrived & was working on his rotors, .... John & Aggie Brewer from MO with their super gyrotransporter & luxurious RV camper ... their Magni was getting a good work-out over the next days. Sherry & Rick Eichman were there .... Several locals & Gillan Bradley from Portland were also camping. John Rountree & ??? set up swags & tents in the hangar attic area!
Some earlybirds had come & left already ... I missed meeting with Sportcopter M912 flying Nebraska rancher Karl S. ... he & I were doing our builds about the same time .... needless to say he chose his kit-build well & has been flying the rotors off his for a good while!
Glenn had helped Mike with the shuttle flight to get both AirGyro's Calidus & Cavalon located from Spanish Fork to Brigham & also had to get his BFR. It seems that the pre-event activity was centered around Glenn's hangar ... which was pretty cool for him!
Glenn met my Wed eve flight into SLC & we drove to Brigham on Thursday early AM .... Thursday the activity centered over at the big hangar ... I got some time with Michael in the Red Cavalon ... the winds were nice and co-operative most of the day!
The big group activity was the 5pm exodus to Maddox for the meal ... Glenn ,Curt Pittman & I elected for a small group meal of KFC @ Curt's place. More great flying in the evening cool until dark ... the main hangar has a great view of much of the flight area when the 17 pattern is in use!
Friday was the most "structured" day with a couple of forums & thrust / hang tests ... after the awesome group flight to Ogden for breakfast! Charlie Wakamatsu gave an excellent review of this CLT / rebuild of his single AirCommand with 582, then Todd used Glenn's Super-monarch Butterfly ...( in the process of having a heart transplant)... having an engine conversion to a Yamaha genesis 120hp... as a prop for his forum about this engine - explaining it's good features for aircraft use & how to install it! WOW ... a bit of work to do it ... but what a great engine for the application & 1/2 cost(all installed) of similar rotax 4 stroke ... amazing there aren't a lot more in gyros!
A CFI Q&A round-circle meeting with Mike Burton & Cammie Patch ... concluded the days forum activities. Meanwhile out on the south parking area & then in Curt Pittman's hangar the Thrust testing & hang tests were going on ... Glenn & Curt were in charge & did a great job. one of the Colorado contingent Thomas Fernandez helped & tested his neat hydraulic gauge! ... verified a good correlation with the other scale used!
J-Bird ( Jay Gunderson) introduced himself & joked about being a screaming liberal!
... in a hotbed of conservatives!
he'd brought his cousin along - Arlen & with John Rountree ... the 3 stayed on for training with Mike B. afterwards.
Lots more but I'm falling asleep here .. post a few pics & back tomorrow!
