I was on holidays in Capadocia (central Turkey) and also took to the air in a different contraption (best watch in HD):
Great view over the fantastic landcape.

I might try one of those that was tethered or one that can steer in any direction (Up wind, down wind, cross wind and most importantly away from power lines!!!!)

Yes, Arnie, it seemed completely calm, but every layer of air had a slight draft going into a different direction.
The Pilots were experts, steering hithero and thishero with great skill. Our Woman pilot was the best: While we were getting dangerously close to the cliffs, she would ask "is there anything over there? I forgot my glasses" etc. We were laughing, some of us slightly hysterically, though. Also, before the music sets in, she seems to just scrape by one of the rocks and says "I'm woman driver...".

Kai ... I have never been in a balloon but hope to some day ... other than a burst of propane once in a while , it must be the most relaxing and enjoyable way to float over the countryside ... is it really like that or just looks like that ?

Exactly as you say, Arnie. Complete silence and no wind (because you have exactly the same speed as the surrounding air) interrupted by short snorting bursts of noise.
