So, how would you regulate leaving the start line?
No two prerotators achieve the same RPM at the same time. How would you make this a fair take off? I've built 503's that would out fly a MTO with speed and agility, but my prerotator could not compete. Am I suppose to invest thousands of dollars to compete? It is a drag to the end. The format is a test where skill and knowhow (and maybe some cunning and guile) will still count. Note, a +600hp turbine monster with the benefit of reverse didn't get it all its own way on the day. Using a standing or le mans start, I would wager your 503 machine in skilled hands will be in front at the 1000' mark on almost any given day. (and then be pretty hard to catch from there). ps. The POH will handicap the MTO in any event. |
