I watched the weather channel the last few days and the one news guy out in the wind in Miama was way over dramatizing the wind. He was standing outside with his legs spread about as wide as he could...in 40 mph wind gusting to 55 mph. He was acting like he could barely stand up. What kind of fools does he think are watching? Sure, the winds forecasted could take him off his feet, when and if they came, but standing there and constantly letting out little screams like he is about to topple over was pathetic.
Then he took a palm tree branch , held it out and said "watch what this wind does to it.". He let it go and it dropped in the water at his feet and stayed there! He even kicked at it. We have 60 -70 winds up here in Illinois every year and I don't have to stand with my feet 5 feet apart .
Now, when they switched to another black reporter, who was standing in 60 mph winds, he was standing almost normally., and he was in much stronger winds.
I lost all respect for that one reporter who was nothing but over sensualizing the whole experience.
Then I wont forget a statement from one reporter sitting at a desk. Irma was a cat 5 but skirted Cuba and was down graded to a 4 ...then a 3. You could sense their dismay when it stayed at a 3....then it went back to a 4....and the reporter said..."finally, its a 4.". That told me a lot right there.
Of course this could have been the worst hurricane ever, but thankfully it wasn't and many disappointed reporters will have to wait for another potential disaster to come along.

Then there were the reporters REALLY barely being able to stand, in what was 80-90 winds. No acting required there!

They say we are supposed to have 30-50 mph winds here at around 5 pm. Do you still have power? any damage? Hope not.

Jake seems to still be offline. I did speak to Bud, though. He's fine. It was pretty much spent when it went past him. Looking forward to heavy rain here for a while and some wind. First ever Tropical Storm Warning issued for Atlanta, GA.

We are without power, I am conserving the fuel in the Gen by only running it for an hour or so then cutting it off for awhile. Guess we will be playing cards tonight... Lots of branches down in the driveway, I am sure some trees will come down, hopefully not any big ones. I was in the Carolinas when Hugo came through, I was also in Sebring Fl at Rotax school during Wilma....You all stay safe!

Unfortunately Stan, that is the norm for 90% of reporters nowadays. All trying desperately to get that best story award at the media "Logies" We all know the old adage - "You can't let the truth get in the way of a good story".

It seems I am one of the lucky ones. Power has been on all the way. Except for the day before when the branch fell.... Even the next house and the whole street doesn't have juice. I have mine coming off the pole directly. It's good to be right now....

No issues in the Taylorsville Megaplex. I'm heading to the airport in a bit to see if the hangars leaked any.
"IF"....now THAT'S funny, that is.

Zephyrhills airport is OK. No damage to hangars or aircraft. No power in hangars but that is no issue. No damage to my home and I have power but no FIOS service so my phone and internet are down, I can communicate with my cell phone. Mike Boyette - get to work. I need my FIOS.
