I was over on one of our farthest farm today with my insurance agent looking at the grain drying bins. Right next door was a cattle lot with about 50 head of angus cattle. They were just staring at me, and the closer I walked up to the fence, the closer they came. I almost was able to pet one. I kept thinking about all the ribeyes walking around.

A friend of mine who owns the Bell47 is raising cattle and told my wife not to befriend them.
It is harder to send them to the slaughter house if you make a connection apparently.
I wouldn't care. When you are hungry ...... you are the most dangerous creature on this world!

Yea, even though I love rib eyes, I would get attached to cows I had fed all their lives. These critters were so curious and friendly..

.

Angus are great ..... the meat has just the right amount of fat marbled thru it for taste and juiciness ...... but I agree with ya guys about raising my own .... I prefer to buy beef in the store .... it would mess with my taste buds to eat something I had fed and raised myself .

Hi Narnie, how are you mate? Been a while. Is your internet sorted out (I mean oot) yet? :bunny

Yeah, we can buy Kangaroo meat here in supermarkets and some butchers.... I have tried it, but I cant get over the 'skippy factor' :badluck :laughing

What is annoying too tho, I have a friend in Mexico who has a pet pig (Chanchi) and I have often thought of getting a pet pig.... so now, when I buy pork, ham or bacon, I feel guilty :dizzy :laughing

Over here on TV there was a program where they were at a restaurant and when people ordered the lamb, they would bring out a cute little baby lamb ..... a cute little calf when they ordered beef.... lucky no one ordered the shark or crocodile :ugeek: :laughing :yoda2 :Wolvie

Muz - "I have often thought of getting a pet pig."
My niece has a young pig in Caloundra that has to go if you're interested.

I would take it Tim, however, I am not sure where I will be living shortly... let alone if where I end up I could have a pet pig :noidea

When does she have to have it gone by? Is it a miniature or full size? :noidea

How did she end up with that? :yoda2 :Wolvie

She picked it up as a piglet (you know, real cute) and bought it back from Broken Hill on a trip, maybe 4 months ago. It has done a good job of aerating my sisters back lawn. Besides, I don't think it's even legal to keep one in town. I can find out more if you're interested or even see if I can get a photo.
Would make quite a few egg & bacon McMuffins.

Are you planning on moving?

In a month or two I should have my internet sorted out and be here regularly ......

Best Pork I ever had was an oldtime neighbor in the 1960's .... he fed them a boiled barley mash , surplus vegetables from his huge garden , and lots of milk from his dairy cows ...... best pork in the world.

Many times I have wanted to raise one like that to butcher myself , but it would end up being a pet to me and I wouldnt have the heart to kill it and eat it.

But damn ... that was good pork ..... his wife baked fresh bread every day using an old wood-fired cook stove .... they made their own butter , separated cream by hand with an old hand cranked machine ..... and fed the leftover milk to the pigs.

Heck with that "befriend" stuff. I name all my cows.

There's, Krystal, Mickey-D, Hardee, Wendy, Jack (in the box)....it sets the tone and get's them in the proper mood right from the start.

...and you don't need music to call them up to petting distance. A cow magnet (feed bucket) works nicely and will pull them in from half a mile away.
