I just put in my order for a Tango 2.

I will build it up from bare bones and will use a 4 cyl. instead of a 3cyl. w/ Teal's Skytrax gearbox adapter.

I'll get mine 1 yr from final testing pending outcome of those test and some serious hours flown off after this time has past.

18k for a kit. What the Hell!?? what do I have to loose..........wait don't answer that.......... :beefcake :fickyou :violin

You can see from the plethora of two seat tandems that are so much more expensive than single seat opens and are now everywhere, that "If you build it they will come"
I look at the Sportcopter 2 the same way. It is a brute on power with a Lycoming engine. It has one of the toughest landing gear systems I've seen on any aircraft other than an Apache or Sik hh-60.
It is outfitted inside with the kind of accouterments one would expect of a sophisticated high level aircraft, (not like the Celier that uses pull strings and a ball stopper for trim adjustments. Yes they work, but for 100 K I don't think they are appropriate)
Its width shoulder to shoulder is awesome and with the power would lift to fat bozo doughnut eating cops into the air safely (hehe)
If they ever manage to get primary certification on it it will be an American Made force to be reckoned with in gyros, but I see it more as a option to fixed wing people movers over short distances.

I'm surprised that it seems to have such small vertical and horizontal stab / rudder surfaces. Any comments on how it flies and power related yaw characteristics.

Jim has experimented with a lot of tails including the "miracle" tall tail. It sucked!
He had real problem with it. The tail he has on is way more effective and absolutely counter acts any torque roll.
Even at slow speed since the winglets are out passed the cabin and the whole tail is way out so it acts as a dart!

from the website:

WHY WE CHANGED THE TAIL DESIGN
This decision was made after a year of testing with several configurations. Also the cruciform tail seemed to "hunt" at high speeds and this needed to be changed. We are very pleased with the new tail design as it far outperformed the cruciform design and has fixed the stability issues for both pitch and yaw. The horizontal stabilizer has a slightly larger surface than before, and because it is out in cleaner airflow it is not starved during quickly reduced power settings.

I guess I just can't make any sense of all of this, seems like the different proponents of different tail designs have very different rationales of what works better and why. Clearly there's not only one way to skin a cat. This looks very similar to the Autogyro Cavalon and Calidus tail designs except proportional to the cabin even smaller.

The photo atop may have a smidge of fisheye in it.
I flew the origional red egg with tall tail and have flown Marvs white and red.
The both flew smooth and waggle free.
I know when they went to the triple tail origionally it was made of 3 vortex tails so sa ed money, but it looks like they rounded them off more now.
Jim is a nut about perfection, just the kind of guy you wkuld want building your new aircraft.
Although it might take an extra decade or so....
