Maybe Gabor was weightlifting and dropped the barbell on the floor :Nazi

On a serious note .... could a big offshore quake send a tsunami high enough to cover Florida ??? scary thought . Not much high ground is there ??

Arnie..I have read several years ago that a big chunk of the Canary Islands could slip into Atlantic, then cause a wave that would travel across the Atlantic and hit the Eastrrn seaboard. The topography of how the continental shelf gradually slopes up is what kicks the elevation of the ocean wave. Just like watching the waves coming in and turning into a big wave like the Beach Boys sing about!

A big enough quake making a wave out on the east side of the Atlantic near the shore could travel across the Atlantic.

"Catch a wave and I am sitting on top of the world"

Hopefully a big wave like that won't make Guam tip over.....

(Canary Island - from wiki) ..... La Palma is currently the most volcanically active island in the Canary Islands Archipelago. It is likely that several eruptions would be required before failure would occur on Cumbre Vieja.[21][22] However, the western half of the volcano has an approximate volume of 500 cubic kilometres (120 cu mi) and an estimated mass of 1.5 trillion metric tons (1.7×1012 short tons).

If it were to catastrophically slide into the ocean, it could generate a wave with an initial height of about 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) at the island, and a likely height of around 50 metres (164 ft) at the Caribbean and the Eastern North American seaboard when it runs ashore eight or more hours later.

Tens of millions of lives could be lost in the cities and/or towns of St. John's, Halifax, Boston, New York, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Miami, Havana and the rest of the Eastern Coasts of the United States and Canada, as well many other cities on the Atlantic coast in Europe, South America and Africa.

I'm still optimistic that California will fall off first!

A mega tsunami hit Hawaii over 500 years ago. An estimated 9.0 quake off Alaska caused it. The clue of how large it was was figured by how incredibly high sea shells were found inland.

In my area of central NC it is called the Gold Hill fault. It runs northeast. southwest. Small earthquakes are common here. The fault runs west of Atlanta through the Talladega area and onward it crosses the panhandle and into the Gulf of Mexico. The east coast is very old geologically compared to the western part of the country. Charleston had one of the worst ever earthquakes in the US in the 1800's. It rang church bells in Pennsylvania. The oldest mountains in the US are about 30 miles east of here. They are called the Uwharries. They are islands that were pushed up between the the two plates. The Uwharries are extremely rich in gold deposits. The Steele mine averaged 30 pounds of gold per ton of rock. The Thebe Saunders was almost as rich. The Confederacy depended on this areas gold to buy weapons and fund the war. A lot of work was done by slave labor. In 1907 a 80lb chunk of gold was found locally. down the road at the reed mine 28, 17, 11, and 8 lb chunks were found.

That is inevitable Scott.... not so much because of the wave itself washing it over.... :noidea

it will be when everyone runs to the other side of the island to get away from the wave that it will tip over ......

evidently :noidea :lie :badluck :laughing :yoda2 :Wolvie
