Do planes often land on the roads near you? Have you ever been driving on the highway and had a plane land in front of you or one suddenly appear in your rear view mirror?

That would be awesome I reckon :like

I was just wondering how often it happens, I think I saw it on 'Alaska airmen' or one of the Canadian shows... I cant remember.... just wondering if it ever happens on highways near you and if drivers are trained for it?

Over here, it is illegal to land on a road (unless an emergency).... so if one does land on the road, always stop off the road and check a spark plug or look like you are doing a fuel drain check... then file a precautionary landing to check plug/fuel when you felt 'a miss' :like

Knowing aussies tho.... you would land perfectly safely and some clown would smash into you.... a big redneck element over here.... and prolly texting or on the cell phone anyway :badluck :laughing :yoda2 :Wolvie

No .... where I live is endless flat and open prairie .... and when someone needs to land they find a nice smooth farm field and set down there .... actually a lot of farmers owned planes in the 1960's and 1970's ... tax laws let them deduct it as a farm expense ... Cessna loved it !!!!

However ... shhhhh .... when nobody was watching there was a garage owner near the outskirts of town who would do lazy circles until traffic was clear ... do a quick landing on the highway and taxi into his parking lot.

And another friend with a float plane would land on crescent lake , tie up to a tree , and go for lunch , he was the same guy who built the 13 passenger hovercraft that is up in Alaska now.

Here is how it looks without the snow and ice

Here is me on the hovercraft around 1995 ... for some reason I look 6' 3" tall .... I am only 5' 11" or so.

I dont want to scare Stan into thinking I am a big guy who can eat more Kentucky fried kittens than him

Don't ask how many squirrels I ate at one sitting. Hint...2 squirrels are a nice meal...and I am talking fox squirrels....not greys!
