This should probably go in the joke section but it is a true story

In order to save the planet , Sweden installed wind towers that dont work half the time and freeze up the rest of the time.

The solution ??? .... use fossil fuels in a helicopter and spray the windmill blades with hot water heated with fossil fuels

Accountants have calculated that the amount of helicopter fuel and heating fuel far exceeds the amount of electrical energy the wind generator is producing

.

Dang the bad luck....the last time that humans relied on solar and wind was called the dark ages....just sayin'.

Wouldn't you think they would have done viability testing before buying windmills? Or even have heated blades (de-icing) :noidea

I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time? :laughing :yoda2 :Wolvie

Yeah but they would have to draw electricity from the grid to de ice the blades........
Then they are right back to the negative and using energy instead of creating it...
gee never thought of that..

Those things make a shitload of electricity, they could have had 3 or 4 % of the power going to warmers just when needed.... at least they would be doing something :laughing :pop :yoda2 :Wolvie

I wonder how much a large farm of those things affect the weather's wind currents and possibly cause weather related problems?

They have to melt the ice from the wind turbines during calm conditions .... otherwise the sling cable would move around too much and the warm water spray would blow away in the wind.

So of course when they are done melting the ice , the windmill just sits there idle and often freezes up again and they have to come back and de-ice it again.

Another problem is after they have melted all the ice , a bit of residual water ends up running down to the bottom blade and forms a lump of ice at the tip , sometimes even a big icicle.

When the wind does pick up a bit the windmill may not start spinning right away because of the 10 pound lump of ice hanging on the lower blade

If the wind picks up a bit more it will start turning the blades but if the lump of ice does not sling off it puts it out of balance and the whole tower starts to weave and flex and start a resonance that can destroy the whole thing.

These windmills are all around me. I did not sign up to have them put on one of my farms. Those things cause more problems than they fix. Yes...one windmill can power 500 homes, but at a great subsidized cost....and then after 20 years, mega maintenance and replacement.

I am also against ethanol....and ethanol and windmills can increase my income from the farms. My opinions are counter to most farmers in my area. Getting top dollar doesn't always work the best.

The best and the worst

One of the best places to put windmills is on the edge of the ocean or large lakes because that is where the wind blows the most.

But it is also the worst because of the humidity in the air from the water and makes for perfect icing conditions when the temperature is cool enough.

Not a problem in warm climates but places like Sweden (picture in the first post) , they have lots of humidity and lots of winter

Yes , if those windmills turned 24 hours a day it would be worthwhile , but in some places they sit idle 70% of the time.

And that creates another problem , they must have an equivalent amount of standby coal or gas powered plants to take over when the wind dies down .... and that does not work very well because those plants can not be fired up on a moments notice and it is very inefficient to start them and stop them all the time

Where I live (Manitoba) we have huge hydro-electric dams , lowest electrical rates in the world , and export the surplus to the USA . We dont need more electricity. But that did not matter , they put up a bunch of windmills anyway , cost millions and millions of dollars and have to be rebuilt in 10 - 20 years.

Not to mention the huge amounts of copper windings needed for the generators .... so they need to dynamite a bunch more holes in the ground at the copper mines . All in the name of saving the planet

Liberal warmists think like suicide bombers ... blow everything up in order to save everything .... we need a great big mental ward to put them all in.

Hey .... that's a hell of an idea .... erect a huge fenced compound .... put all the suicide bombers and liberals in there .... and give them all the dynamite their hearts desire.

The pilots love it , they work in ideal flying conditions , they get to be home with mama every night , and when they get bored they fuel up the helicopter and scout the windmills to check for ice.
