Looking at the end of the video tho... I am not sure that the guy in the left seat (actual drivers seat?) is conscious? He appears to be slumped back in the seat with one leg out of the door, but not trying to reach the ground?

I actually think the pilot passed out whilst hovering and the guy in the right seat (maybe non pilot) had to do the best he could, without knowing what he was doing, to get it on the ground,,, no pilot with any training would try to hold up a leaning chopper with their leg?

Another possibility is a teenage son and his mate 'THINK' they can fly Dads chopper.... and discover it is harder than it looks? :noidea :puke :laughing

Or, the pilot may have just been scaring the shit out of the passenger :laughing

If that heli was 'out of control' it would have crashed.... I actually don't think it was out of control at all... perhaps the pilot was showing how it can hover vackwards and the passenger in the right seat freaked out (as intended)? :rofl :yoda2 :Wolvie

Another loss of control after landing .... this guy was lucky , nothing to hit right in front of him and he saved it.

I was also worried about the dog running around before he landed .... some dogs like to jump into tail rotors.

I was looking for wind cues and cant tell what the prevailing wind is, but with the ocean behind, I would kind of think it would have been a tail wind that wasn't helping him at all.... and that phucking dog :punch

Very lucky he didn't bin it :eek :drama

I don't fly choppers, but I would think that doo dadding around, half flying and half on the ground would be pretty dangerous? Like a chopper on the ground with flying rotor rpm would be very prone to being pushed around by the wind? I would think that approach and land and get the thing on the ground and park it would be ideal? Like |I said, I don't fly them, but that seems sensible to me.... try and avoid being half and half.... and if you aren't confident and experienced.... don't land on tiny pads with dogs running around.... on sloping land, on a windy day.... with a tail wind (or gusting tail wind) :realcrazy :laughing

So, the chopper guys.... what did he do wrong? Apart from running out of talent? :noidea :rofl :yoda2 :Wolvie

I am probably the least experienced helicopter pilot here to give my opinion...but here it is....

The pilot was landing upslope which is better than landing downslope as you have more tail rotor clearance. However...he was fighting a lot of turbulence....and as he was trying to set down...the tail started to dip...and he overreacted with a quick forward cyclic and thus the abrupt nose down action which almost caused the rotor at 12 o'clock to contact the upslope. Luckily he reacted quick enough and saved It it. He made a good aviation decision and aborted the idea of attempting to land there.

Some of my students ended up flying the Canyon and they usually use the Astars.
All of them said that they couldn't wait for their turbine time reach the 500 hours and get the hell out of that machine.
I have personally never flown one but apparently the flight characteristics of the machine are great.
It is the landing that is freaking terrible.
Usually when you are in trouble and have to set it down and you are already shaken up an unforgiving machine can turn your day into a bad bad bad day...... :badluck

he landed short on the pad you can see 4 corner lights (and the dog didn't help) probably his first pad/toe in landing and his approach to a confined area shows he was not comfortable paused high wallowed with the wind then screwed the pooch as he missed the heal springs (A-stars hate missing the heal springs ground resenance now!

more money than brains..typical. :pbunny he stopped flying too soon.
