.

Came across this NASA animation of the path of the asteroid that almost hit earth in 2003

Cool the way earth and moon gravity pulled on it ... at the end the moon gravity sent it back out to space.

And we were warned about it.......not!
:eek

I would have thought that as close as that thing came to Earth, that all the amateur astronomers and pros alike would have video of its footage or something.... Something that came between Earth and the Moon would surely be visible especially if it was large enough to be a named asteroid.

I would have filled my pantry just like I do when hurricanes are coming.
Prepare for the disruption of food and water supply.....just to give ourselves a bit of chance if we survive the impact......It would make sense no?

Interesting Ernie. I "wikied" it and discovered more.
J002E3 is the designation given to an object in space discovered on September 3, 2002 by amateur astronomer Bill Yeung. Initially thought to be an asteroid, it has since been tentatively identified as the S-IVB third stage of the Apollo 12 Saturn V rocket (designated S-IVB-507), based on spectrographic evidence consistent with the paint used on the rockets. The stage was intended to be injected into a permanent heliocentric orbit in November 1969, but is now believed instead to have gone into an unstable high Earth orbit which left Earth's proximity in 1971 and again in June 2003, with an approximately 40-year cycle between heliocentric and geocentric orbit.
If it hits us, it was self inflicted. ;-)

Yes, IF we survived the impact, but I am always prepared for hurricanes and I rotate my supplies on a regular basis...
