 Excitement builds for Floats Cert
Author Message
Larry and I are doing our Floats Rating at Brown's Seaplane Base this Friday and Saturday. Very excited about it. I got an hour and a half in a 152 with an instructor yesterday just to get back on track flying the fixed wing. After a few touch and goes I was greasing them in pretty well even with the 6-8 direct crosswind. I forgot how easy the 152 is to fly, pretty much flies on trim. Flying the J-3 cub should be OK.
Hope after I get back I can seriously begin planning the floats on the Tangerine Scream or maybe another gyro - I see a floats build thread in my future.

That would be cool, then you could island hop.

Yeah, floats are great I have always entertained that idea, where I am located, that makes sense because then, the waterways become your runways :laughing And the best thing about a gyro with floats, there is seldom any worry of crosswind :noidea :pop

Well done Jeff :like :koolaid :Wolvie

Larry and I had a great couple of days in Winter Haven doing the floats thing. It was really a pretty intense two days, and really great fun. I think I am hooked. Larry finished up his Sport Rating, but I was way too whacked out after 6.5 hours of instruction flying in 2 days to take my check ride. I decided to do the rating as a full PPL and get my fixed wing current at the same time. So I am going back for another hour or so next weekend and maybe the check ride if they can fit it in. Not really in a rush because I don't really need the rating anytime soon and one can only rent these things with an instructor anyway because of insurance. I plan to try go out there pretty regularly to keep on top of it.
Brown's Seaplane Base is right at the end of the Winter Haven runway so I can even fly there in the gyro to get some time. Pretty awesome setup they have.
My instructor Ben was pretty cool - he has phocomelia with almost no arm on the left and not much more on the right. He's a commercial pilot and can pretty much do anything with the handicap he has, pretty awesome.
The J-3 Cub is a sweet little airplane, about as simple as they come.

That is way too cool. I want to have your babies.
Or Larry's for that matter.

Sounds like you had a blast.... your instructor, Ben, sounds like a KuuuuL dude.... at least he is 'armless :like :laughing :laughing

Seriously, that is KuuuuL.... when a handicap is not even a handicap...... then there is no handicap :like

Good on him :like Tell him he can be an honorary wolverine if he goes for a blast in annoying orange with you :koolaid :laughing :wol2 :Wolvie
