Living fighter bomber (sorry not a rotor craft)
Author Message
Just got back from a week of diving with Oceanic Whitetip sharks, off Cat Island, Bahamas. One of my favorite sharks, they really look like fighter bombers with their large pectoral fins, gliding through the water.

How do you know if they are hungry? I would prefer to dive when they have been properly fed and have happy tummys.

Very impressive photos, I imagine it is quite an adrenalin rush!

I've been doing the shark diving thing for about 10 years, and once one gets to realize that sharks don't consider people meat to be on the menu, the anxiety factor disappears.
They pretty much show up when they hear the boat because they know they're going to get a handout of some stinky fish.
Oceanic are pretty bold and curious, makes it a lot of fun, and a rush...

One over-under with the boat. This is actually a Silky Shark, not an Oceanic Whitecap.

So....you scream like a little girl? I used to surf off of Barbers point in Oahu Hawaii, but I did not know that hammerhead sharks were aggressive, but hey i was in my 20's and was invincible back then. The hammerheads travel from pearl harbor to one of the other islands they travel right through barbers point.

Scroll down to "surf spot details" Hazards..........SHARKS!!! Dude, I was out there 3 or 4 times a week!!!!!! good thing the Internet had not been invented yet.

Elwood I'm not that much into seafood. Growing up I had to eat mullet. A lots of it. About the only thing I can stand now that comes out of the sea is shrimp, flounder and cod.
I like fish but mostly lake and pond fish like catfish, bream, and such. I don't care much for bass. I'm like my dad..he says they taste too much like the way fish smell.

Funny story about my father in law and his kids. They were fishing off a pier on Edisto Island, S.C.
A woman and her husband asked him about the sharks he had caught. They were kinda small... about a foot to foot and a half long.
Hammerheads and sand sharks. Small enough not to cause any harm.
Anyway the woman asks Al (my father in law) “That’s as big as they get right?”
He says “No actually these are babies compared to how big they really get.”
Al tells her that they get as big as she is and bigger!
She wheels around at her husband and yells at him “Get the children out of the water NOW!!!!!”
