My son was up there for about 3 years, he said really a .45 is about the smallest you should take
if you are out in the bush...Here is a pic of them camping north of Coldfoot,Ak. The pic was taken around 3 AM...

No problem in North America known to man that I can't solve with my Springfield Armory and 14 rounds of 185 grain Cor-Bons.

But if in doubt I'll take the 10MM. :D

Yes I love my 10 mm but it's not always easy to find ammo

I went to St. John, New Brunswick one summer about 25 years ago.
Visited one of the mother in laws brothers in St Martin. You could not step in any shaded area. There are little speckled bastereds that have some painful snouts.
The mosquitoes that live that far north in those harsh winters are mean.
I've seen documentaries on TV where they cause caribou to drown in lakes trying to get away from them.

The guys (Soldiers) who built the Alaskan highway in WW2 lived through some tough conditions , but they said the worst thing was the mosquitoes

They had to strip paint from steel bridge girders before welding and they noticed the mosquitoes disappeared when the barrels of paint stripper were opened .... so they diluted some stripper and put in on their clothes as a repellent

Scientists later isolated the chemical DEET from the paint stripper and it has been used as mosquito repellent ever since

.

I've heard that but I think DEET will merely piss off those speckled black vampires in New Brunswick.
