I finally just got some time to read the whole thread. Great tribute to your father, he would be proud as he always was. Are you going to replant this year??? I sure hope so. I’m sure your father had a good crew, Right!!

John- I am misunderstanding your question about replanting. You don't hope to replant.....putting in the crop costs $500-600 an acre for corn....you don't want to replant! We wont "replant" unless say the fields get flooded out in areas. Over the years, dad hardly ever replanted , except small ponds that drowned out the crop.

Stan, I was just basically asking was if you were going to keep it producing the yeild.

John- My cousin took my place when I left the farm in 1986. I was NOT interested in farming dads ground then, nor am I now. I have a passion for curved stair building, and none for farming. My cousin and his two sons have done a fabulous job of farming my dads ground. Now my sister and I own the farms and they will continue to do a fabulous job farming our farms.. We are on a 50/50 crop share with my cousin and that makes him efficient for his own good as well as for my sister and I.

My love and passion of my life was found when I left the farm. I find myself in a situation where I do not have to make any money in my stair shop again, but I am down there with as much enthusiasm as ever! I don't have to build another stairway again, yet I am building them for the satisfaction I get. I thank God often that I taught myself an occupation that has made a nice living for my family doing what I call a hobby...and still yesterday getting actual goose bumps from the sheer excitement of the projects I am blessed with building in my shop.

My cousin has a true passion for farming and my leaving my dads silver spoon operation in 1986 has set my cousin and his two sons up nicely. I am happy for them, and they are REAL happy that I don't have a passion to come back and do the farming myself.
