Early reports indicate Germanwings Pilot Was Locked Out of Cockpit Before Crash in France

A senior French military official involved in the investigation described a “very smooth, very cool” conversation between the pilots during the early part of the flight from Barcelona, Spain, to Düsseldorf, Germany. Then the audio indicated that one of the pilots left the cockpit and could not re-enter.

“The guy outside is knocking lightly on the door, and there is no answer,” the investigator said. “And then he hits the door stronger, and no answer. There is never an answer.”

He said, “You can hear he is trying to smash the door down.”

While the audio seemed to give some insight into the circumstances leading to the Germanwings crash on Tuesday morning, it also left many questions unanswered.

Yeah Arnie, it seems suspiciously like the 2 pilots had a spat and one locked the other out of the play pen and crashed it on purpose?

It is all very sad..... it will be interesting to see what the official outcome is

I cant help thinking there is something wrong with that breed of aircraft, too many are crashing.... all A320's..... it might be better to frame the pilots and make up a story, rather than admit there is a fundamental issue with the aircraft?

We will never know the truth tho.... that is for sure, we will just get told what they want us to hear

There had been earlier speculation by other airline pilots that the cockpit windows failed , incapacitated the pilots , that could also be a reason the pilot knew something was wrong but couldnt get back into the locked cockpit

The expected life of the Airbus A320 is 60,000 hrs and this one had over 58,000

That is true Arnie, but evidently the day before, the aircraft had been inspected/serviced? I hadn't thought of a window failure incapacitating the pilot.... will be interesting to hear the official story

I was going to say it sounds like hypoxia or decompression loss if it was not a suicide.

I smell something fishy here. Every door has a keypad access from the outside!

Air busses are disposable, they are life limited... Boeing and Lockheed and douglas, you could just rebuild, put new wings on 'em and press on for another decade...I'm not going unless it's a Boeing....

The new airbusses are nice, but i still don't trust all that computer BS that takes control away from the pilot.

The gubamint psychiatrists and psychoanalists would have decided that this story is the most believable, that the greatest percentage of the dumb population would believe.... what really happened, we will never know....
I think the A320's have a flaw we aren't allowed to know about.... whilst they quickly try to find a solution..... wait til a couple of A380s crash, then the shit will hit the fan

I just heard on the radio that the co pilot locked the pilot out of the flight deck and then put the plane into a dive, apparantly it was suicide but why take 150 people with you?

I call that homicide.....

Apparently the door can normally be opened via keypad. However, the pilots can lock the door, so that keypad access is barred.

So it looks intentional.

A decompression would open the door, by the way, the press articles say.

Not true. Decompression will not open it.
Besides think about it for a second.
The pilot can knock out the terrorists by decomp.
What good does it do if the door opens and if the terrorists managed to grab an oxygen mask and made it through??????

When I say terrorist I mean the co pilot is one. They do not have to have a turbin to be one. The door has a small gap at the bottom to equalize pressure.

If the plane decompressed then how is the pilot pounding on the door? I say terrorist. or the pilots were pounding each other

Now they are saying he had mental issues and depression , those things can lead to suicide , but it is done to "escape life" "escape from people" ... it is not normal to want to include a bunch of innocent people like he did

Murder-suicides , or suicide bombers are different , they want to kill anybody and everybody including themselves , but it is done for different reasons (anger , hatred , or jealousy)

Gabor, I don't know the details, but alledgedly, if there is a pressure loss in the cockpit, the keypad lock is disengaged, UNLESS it is intentionally locked from inside, then there is no override. The intentional cockpit-lock is there to avoid that terrorists force their way in, either through pressing the keypad code out of another crew member or deliberately causing a pressure loss.

Arnie, there are some psychosis cases, where people deduct, all by their sick reasoning, that it is best for everyone to die. These people then kill first their loved ones and whoever is near and they want to "help" end the misery, then themselves. Happens all the time.

On TV they ran through the previous cases of pilots intentionally trying or succeeding in crashing their plane and there were quite a few, some I had forgotten already, in the last few years. All the more it is a complete mystery to me, why Germanwings did not employ the 2 person in cockpit rule, which most other airlines, even the budget ones have.

Kai I could understand that scenario. It is my belief that a psycho will kill no matter what.
It is never just the spur of the moment act.
They usually build themselves up to the point of no return.
A flight attendant will not spoil a basket case wanting to make a point.
It is the industry's fault that pilots have to hide their condition.
High blood pressure, kidney stone or mental illness and so on.
They have one thing in common. They will all cause you to lose your license.
So pilots don't treat their ailments. They hide them.
And this is the result!

You make a good point Gabor , even police who have seen horrible murders and get all messed up are afraid to seek help because they may lose their job , heck I even have a farmer neighbor who had lots of stress , started hitting the bottle (alcoholic) things got even worse so he went to the doctor and asked for help (right thing to do)

Trouble is the next day he got a registered letter taking away his drivers license , he could not even cross a country road with his farm tractor to do his work so then he tried to commit suicide twice.

He is still alive and back on the land but every once in a while he has to go in and prove he is "not crazy" and not drinking too much , he is forever labeled.
