 Carbon Fibre Rotor Blades in a Gyro

Xray and ultra sound check the parts everywhere milimeters by milimeters , just the Wind tunel time is 3000hours a year and secret , the Wind tunel cost is 55millions its a mission impossible thing just for race car :eek , ok gyro blade subject

Maybe you will be able to get blades to match your Warp drive carbon fiber prop!
Carbon fiber blades are not new, Skysheels made fiberglass AND carbon fiber blades way backin the 1990's. I am sure some of the processes may be, and as carbon fiber becomes more mainstream perhaps the cost will come down some..

I think the biggest change has been from laying CF cloth just like laying fiberglass, to pre preg.... in the old days they could use alternative layers of CF, Kevlar or normal glass fiber, now it comes in prepreg and finished thickness in a lot of cases..... I wouldn't be going hunting for some 90's technology CF rotors personally, but if I had a real heavy machine, I would certainly be looking at Neals.... will be great to get real feedback when they arrive and see how they go when they reach higher hours of use :koolaid :gyro2 :wol2 :Wolvie

I would think that if they are stiffer in torsion they may fly smoother.

They still have to be able to flex, for the lead/lag.... if they were too rigid, they would prolly transfer more vibrations to the frame.... if you had really, really stiff rotors, you would definitely be needing a soft mounted rotor head I reckon :noidea :pop :Wolvie

Yeah, absolutely... they should eliminate a lot of pitch changing issues.... Imagine how much long alloy blades on a 2.5" alloy bar can move about (pitch wise) :noidea

Magni blades are bonded halves with epoxy. These have carbon fibre wrapped around the leading edge. This is one very big difference. When hit they should not split in two halves.

I would love to see someone build composite blades to fit R22 & R44 helicopters

Try to make them the same dimensions and weight as the originals so nothing in the rotor head is compromised , certify them , then the FAA could condemn the peeler ones

Huge market out there , 8000 Robinsons @ $30,000 a set = $240,000,000

I had been in contact with these guys before out of interest. It looks like CF is the future.

What types of repeatable tests can / are done to compare the actual flight performance of different rotor blades?

Just as an FYI here was the reply from Gyro-Tech. Their price is still better than a standard set of Autogyro blades (Approx $4000 US) Magni blades I believe are more than double that.
