He’d just quit smoking and was being a grouch, so his wife told him to get out of the house.

She had no idea he’d come back with more than $100,000 worth of gold.

Australian prospector Mike Brown headed to a familiar spot in Wedderburn, Victoria, after his wife booted him from the house recently, taking his metal detector over land he’d scouted before — but on this trip he found the jackpot, Stuff.co.nz reported.

At first Brown thought he’d found a “big molten blob of copper,” but closer inspection revealed the truth.

“I thought, ‘Bugger me, it is, it’s bloody gold!’” Brown said. “I just dug it up, 87 ounces of the good stuff.”

Brown’s 87-ounce find is impressive, but it’s only one of many massive nuggets dug up Down Under.

Two years ago, a 177-ounce gold nugget was discovered near Ballarat, Victoria, and Brown’s prospecting grounds in Wedderburn yielded up Australia’s biggest-ever nugget, a 256-ounce monster, in 1981, the Independent noted.

9News Australia reported that the “dinkum nugget,” as Brown called it, was worth around $135,000, but the 42-year-old Brown said he wouldn’t part with it for less than $200,000.

“You know what it’s like when you’re married with four daughters,” he said. “You don’t get to see much of that money.”
