.

By mid-Summer Benry will be the most physically fit pilot around
He will be able to run so fast even Danger cant catch him

But if he starts leaving his sidearm at home and begins contemplating Canadian Citizenship
HE'S GETTING TOO MUCH FRESH AIR AND EXERCISE !!!!!!!!

I am enjoying the new adventure Benry .... the part that hooked me was in the video where the guy says ..... you run along the ground and then float up into the air ....

Love this thread ... never paid much attention to chutes till now

Well I had three flights today, take offs look like a sick albatross but im working on smoothing it out.
Landing number one was a full squat, but my ass didnt hit the ground, so im counting that one!
Number two was perfect,a run on landing.
Third on not so much, i was.trying to stop an imaginary swinging and hit the right brake harder then the left as I touched down, got swung up and dumped hard on my ri th t side. Cage is slightly bent but easily fixed. My elbow on the other hand....well im still good for work next week, that s whats important;)
I do feel more confident that if worst case happens and you just.plopped down, youll most likely get up and walk away....
Oh I also got a handle on the pio....

But that guy said it was easy :noidea just run into the air :noidea :laughing :laughing

Did your legs keep running after takeoff like that Mexican dude on the video, or have you got that under control too :eek :laughing :laughing :chainsaw :Wolvie

Sounds like it could cause extra stress on the knees...be carefull Ben, you would hate to trip and fall into a cow patt!
Any cool ge whiz stuff that would transfer over to gyros?

actually Yes, one surprising little thing is an app on my phone called PPGs it is a complete dashboard for ultralight aircraft. no need for a pod!

They really have this stuff well thought out, my harness has a convex mirror on a "schneider key ring" (Muz, that means a retractible reel) so I can check my fuel in flight! That sure would have been nice in my Sportcopter!

Also a lot of the guys are using 3M Super 33+ electricians tape for prop tape, sooper cheap and seems just right, I'll let you know.

I really like the reserve chute as well, small sits in my lap....I know not much use ina gyro, but a small harness and one of these reserves Could make a difference 1% of the time.

I also really like the design of the stuff sack....wont help gyros, but other stuff?
it opens to a flat circle then draws up and around.

I'll let you know if I find out more things...

That's great Hen, I started out buying 2" helicopter leading edge tape for my props at like $40 a yard, but being curvy wood props, it tended to lift and come off in only 20 or so hours.... so I got sick of buying it.... so I changed to gaffa tape (100mph tape).... not the cloth reinforced duct tape, it is like 1 1/2" wide electrical tape (grey or black) and $5 bucks a roll and used that as leading edge tape. generally after about 10-15 hours it was pretty sad and needed replacing, but a $5 roll would do 50 prop blades.... compared to $40 each time :eek and being a :Cheapass I thought it was goooooood :laughing :laughing

I don't know why people are so anti parachutes in gyros? I know they think that the rotors will cut up or tangle the chute if you launch a ballistic or throw out a reserve chute.... but think about this.... if the machine is right way up and the rotors are connected and turning as they should, the parachute is not needed..... if your engine stops, you don't consider jumping out, you land and fix the machine... if however, say a rod end broke or, a blade broke on the propeller.... or someone were to do the unthinkable and push over .... all just examples I don't know, say a UFO (alien type) buzzed you and tipped over your machine.... now a parachute, either ballistic or a seat chute/lap reserve.... would become a handy item to have at your disposal..... the machine will not likely be right way up, in fact you can really guarantee it will be upside down.... so the rotors will not be much of an issue..... so.... you can plummet to your death thinking about all the things you wanted to do.... how you are too young to die, who will feed the cat :noidea you know, all the important stuff like that :laughing and you die....

Or, you could have fitted a ballistic recovery chute (or a large cargo chute with a hand launch drogue chute in a tube near your seat.... you realise you are wrong way up.... you say fuck several times.... then you push the button or reef the drogue out of the tube and throw it to the breeze..... the machine is falling rotorhead first towards the ground..... the drogue pulls the cargo chute out of its container and suddenly you are not plummeting very fast at all.... you are still upside down hanging in your seat belts, but you get to see the ground approach quite slowly.... instead of watching it rise up and smite thee dead :noidea Which would you prefer?

If you fit a ballistic recovery chute.... don't aim it up.... aim it down and about 45 degrees towards the front wheel not the back because if the machine is right way up, and the rotors and prop will foul the launch of the chute.... you wont need to deploy it.... howeber, if you were to push over, what was down and to the front, is now up and to the back..... which is the perfect thrajectory for a ballistic chute to deploy.... clear of annoying obsticals such as rotors and propellers, then you fall gracefully, although rather uncomfortably at a strange angle to mother earth patiently waiting for your arrival.... once you hit the ground, hopefully not on something sharp/hard or full of electricity.... you climb out of the wreckage and think "shit! it will cost $20k to fix this!" :badluck :killme :laughing :laughing

My point is, a chute on a gyro is not such a silly idea, because if you need it, you will not be up the right way anyway.... so 'down' becomes the new 'up' :noidea :laughing :Wolvie

I personally believe around, ex military cargo chute would be best for a couple of hundred bucks..... because spending $7k on the latest you beaut rocket propelled sooper dooper BRS will not save you anyway if you are only at 100' when you need it... you wouldn't have time to recognise you are upside down and hit the button/pull the handle.... it would be like on the road runner... as you hit the ground with a little cloud of dust... then the chute pops out :realcrazy :laughing :laughing

I once asked Jim Vanek "if you lost a control rod, could you grab the rod and ride it down?"
His response? "Youve' got your whole lifetime to figure that out!"

Sure, and when you get close enough to the ground, just jump off the control rod.... I saw Buggs Bunny do that once, it works well :like :pop :Wolvie
