Where's that pic from? Any details on this, any type of strike etc? Just looking at the edge of that crack one has to wonder if there was some type of precipitating cause.

I would like to see the bottom of the mounting strap .... I bet it has a knife-sharp edge on it .... which should normally have been cleaned up on a belt sander before it left the metal shop

Also the ideal strap should taper down at the outboard end so stress is not concentrated there.

Hello,

this problem became apparent in 2012 and autogyro-europe introduced a new rotor system with a pseudo-doubler, by step-tapering the mounting straps, see picture.
Additionally they changed the internal structure of the blade.
From the number of holes I deduct, that it is still the very old rotor, picture also attached. I read Averso blades, but those were never used by autogyro themselves. They used to use aircopter or aerocopter brand, before making/procuring there own.

Whether the two measures are sufficient, I cannot tell, I haven't heard anything, since.

But bottom line is: if you have extruded blades, keep inspecting them, no matter what.

Did the old rotors have the sleeve that they do now? Looking at the outline marks on that blade, it does not look like it. (Is the sleeve what you guys are calling a doubler?) Gabor what do you know about the pictures - date etc?

Appears these are old blades / hub bar. Apparently extensively investigated by MTO etc. An interesting read.....
Time to change to those carbon fibre when they have a few with a 1000 plus hours.
Also found somewhere some issues with a Magni blade failure in flight - just can't locate it now.
Seems like a big issue is over stressing blades with extreme maneuvers beyond the manufacturers recs as well.

Those relief cuts do nothing the doubbler has to be bonded to the blade to be effective . :bunny

Yes, I thought the same. Apparently they were a bit better than the previous solution, but not a proper remedy.
