As you may already have guessed there is a strong movement towards more gun control here in Germany. The conclusion "more guns = more kills" seemed too obvious.
After hearing many different opinions on this, (yes, I mean you guys) I realized that there is more than one truth and then, that everyone is lying their butt off about this issue, depending on their agenda.
NRA is no better than gun-controllers.
I did my own research and came to the same results as above, but again not the same conclusion.
I do not think that more guns make things safer and I don't think that less guns make things safer. I just think,
gun ownership rates don''t matter.

If you have similar cultural background, the amount of weapons make little to no difference.

Take Switzerland and Germany. They are very similar in homocide rates, sometimes Switzerland is in the lead, sometimes Germany. (0.6-0.8 per 100 000)
However, Switzerland has 50% - 70% more guns than Germany (again depending on count and year). Moreover the Swiss guns in question are the local assault rifle, fully automatic, of course. Almost every man goes to military service and takes his gun home until the age when you don't get drafted any more.

So basically almost all swiss young men have an automatic, state-of-the-art assault rifle and a couple of large clips at home.

In Germany you can only own sporting rifles or hunting rifles, which are very limited in magazins (semi automatic 3 shots, no full autos).

Does this have any influence on the homocide rate?
No!
We take a hammer or a knife if need be.

The gun promoters often use Germany as example of dictatorship limiting gun-ownership. that is just a lot of male bovine droppings.
The Nazis actually reduced the previous gun control laws, although limited to non-Jewish people.

So be prepared to be lied to by everone.

True the NRA is a sham, may not have started out that way but it is a joke to me now.

Through compromise and internal lobbying and corruption they (NRA) are responsible for helping draft and implement GUN LAWS and REGULATIONS supposedly to protect ownership and the right to bear arms and hence we have butt loads of laws and regs to drag us down! If they really did what they claim they are
they would fight tooth and nail like the anti gunners to prevent and strike down bullshit like CCW permits and the like.

Kind of reminds me of the Fox guarding the Hen house!!!!

Interesting thread...

IMO different cultures have differing views on guns and violence.

In the USA, our founding documents say (and I agree) that a persons 'rights' are theirs by nature (or by God if you prefer). This means that a person has the rights BECAUSE THEY EXIST... NOT because a govt gives them (or takes them away).
And our founding documents say it is the govt's job to protect those rights for every citizen (equally).
SOOO... are those rights being protected equally if:
Different folks are taxed differently?
Different folks get different levels of govt handouts?
Different folks get different (special) privilege (while others do not get privilege)?
And here is a clincher: If a person is forced to provide a service for someone... when that someone could get the service somewhere else?
And our founding documents go on to say that gun ownership 'Shall not be infringed'... IMO that is clear... govt: HANDS OFF.

Now we know govt types really only have one talent... spin talk... read that telling lies and convincing folks to believe them.

The problem, as I see it, is us citizens have allowed govt types to convince us lies are truth and truth is lies.
When we get our heads our of our @$$es... study the founding documents and learn the TRUTH... we will take our country back from the lieing cheating corrupt govt spin-masters.
If we do not... the USA is gonna end up like Nazi Germany... which would be a shame.

Yes, it gets more interesting all the time. i would like to think, that there is a lot of things we don't know.

There is a lot of people here who lash out at Muslims and Islam all the time. The Quran is very clear about "do not kill" and "suicide will let you burn in hell forever".
These terrorists represent Islam as much as Anders Behring Breivik represents Christianity.

And the Abrahamic common verse of Quran and Bible can be found here:
http://www.evilbible.com/Murder.htm

But we are fed, either by government, or by opposition, what we should consider "truth".

U never hear it talked about that in Christianity as is the Devil (anti-christ,etc) being the opposition within itself......

Is it not true there is an opposition to Muhammad and there is also a Devil if u will within this religion as well?

or is it just that men do what evil they will?????????

And then just because of whatever issue it is justified to use force or violence which is then cast amongst it's populace regardless of the case!!!!?????

Hummmmmmm! :eek

Religion... in an of itself (other than the Islamic radicals) does not seem to get into much trouble...

UNTIL...

They make the mistake of tieing up with govt.
IMO mixing church and state... seems to always turn out bad.

Wonder if being smart enough to understand this... was the reason the founders of the USA wrote specifically the two would NOT be joined in this country.
And while we are on the subject... If indeed they were that smart... Seems to me studying what they intended... might be smarter than thinking we know it all...
Ya think?

Seems IMO we (the entire human race) have a bad case of 'know it all'... in that we are not smart enough to study and listen... to folks with wisdom...
Being smart, and being wise.... are two different things.

Even the peaceful Buddhists have their own radical terrorists.
There is no religion that is immune from it.

One can hide behind a mask of Christianity but that does not mean they are Christian.
The guy that was behind the mask in the movie Halloween was not a hockey player.

However Jamie Lee Curtis will always be hawt!!!

I have been fighting this battle all my adult life.

I once got a standing ovation at the Iowa caucus when I was a guest speaker for Duncan Hunters presidential run, he couldn't make it and asked if I would go in his stead. Against a gathering of other presidential hopefuls I got up to the podium and with no script began to talk to the people....I started out with "I am no politician, I am not running for anything and I'm not asking anything from you tonight"

The applause when I had finished was so loud and long they had to have a moderator come up to quell everyone's zeal at hearing "the truth".

Presidential candidate Ben Richardson from New Mexico got up next and looked at me and said" How am I supposed to follow that!?!"

After the speeches the President of the NRA Sandy Frohman invited me to the grand table, and asked me to expand on my insights.

You know what I had to say? "Mrs Frohman, I am a Distinguished Life member of the NRA, and I don't honestly believe you or the NRA are interested in winning the gun control war, because both sides are making a huge profit from the battle" She of course guffawed and snorted that that just wasnt the case, so I pointed out to her that I had just traveled from Yuma AZ to come here to this dinner, landed at a podunk county airport, rented a ford Speck and drove 1.5 hours to be here while her and the rest of the NRA big wigs flew in in a private jet and pulled up in Limo's!

The people seated around us at the other tables instantly went berserk chanting and applauding me for having the balls to be honest to the big wigs.

I'm not knocking the NRA, they and I have had a long past, they footed the bill for my lawsuit against the ATF, but they will never NOT compromise, if it means keeping things going....

Now I know some of you are fond of Alan Gottlieb and his crew, but I have kept silent on this for the most part, he and that jackass Koresh might as well be traitors and agent provocateurs for the other side.
Yeah I can back up what I'm saying, but don't take them on face value...I597 wouldn't have passed in Washington with out their help.

The one thing that is for certain, is that Americans like a good close battle, whether or not their is any difference between the sides...

I doubt that things will ever change in my lifetime.
