I saw a documentary about Jeeps, they said where the word jeep came from and what it means..... did anyone else see it? Jeep came from the Indians (American) .... it is the word they call something that doesn't have a name..... Jeep is like "thing" in Indian.... That is why VW called their little Jeep like buggy a "thing" because Thing means Jeep

I heard it came from the US Army designation G-P which stood for General Purpose (Vehicle)
And the Army guys pronounced G-P as Gee Pee ... which morphed into Geep ... which morphed into Jeep
Notice I am very knowledgeable about things with the word Pee in it
I should have been a Urine-ologist
.
Yeah, that's what Wikipedia says too.... but the documentary interviewed old blokes and even some ladies who worked in jeep factories, who had worked right from the start of the birth of the Jeep we know of from ww2 and that was their memories..... hard to know, who cares, they were and are still great things... a friend of mine in Nowra (NSW) collects and restores army jeeps....
I must say, I am not talking about modern plastic jeeps.... they are just like any other yuppy 4X4..... the new ones are just surviving of the name, image and reputation of the war jeeps, but nothing near like them in strength and capability.... the new ones are just plastic and coke cans like all new cars
Edit: Great picture Gary.... I am not sure which one of you is scaryest that is you on the right isn't it?

Anyone else notice this round object with a smoke trail between 16:07 - 16:10 ?? (In Gabors video above)
What the heck could it be ??? .... the helicopter is delivering a bucket of concrete for a dam repair in Wales
Weird or what !!
.
I would say it is a flare Arnie.... it is a fogged in remote Welsh mountain.... they prolly all look the same, so to find the exact building site, they prolly let off a flare
Otherwise the pilot might burn heaps of fuel (and time) wondering if he is in the right place... if he sees a flare, he's in the right spot.... the smoke shows wind direction too.... at least, That's what it looks like to me

I had one of those decades ago.... red if I remember. FUN vehicle.
I wish the spirit of innovation was still present... that desire to try new things, the lack of fear, and the lack of worry about litigation. Our society has lost something without that desire to move forwards... hope we get it back soon.
