Sounds good if it don't change from the updates, did it also install the flash player updates? what file manager does it use, I may burn a dvd and play with it again sometime.
I liked the old Ubuntu 10.10, but then the new update screwed it all up..lol
now that said, the file manager on Open susue sucks, half the time it would not copy the sub folders. ended up losing a lot of stuff due to open suse's dolphin file manager. it made all the folders, so it looked like ya had everything, then it would dump the memory before it got done copying it all. found this out the hard way.

I do not have wireless set up at my home AT ALL.
Had an issue years ago... neighbor hacked into my network. Thankfully they did not find their way into the file server...
Decided it was not a good idea to have an open door I did not know how to totally control (I am not a geek and do not want to be).
OTOH: Scott is physically far enough from his neighbors... they would have to sneak up in the woods to link up to his WIFI...

I read a thread at a HVAC forum that was a shot of reality: Someone had a NEST thermostat (you know, the ones where you can control the home temps from your smart phone)....
Well someone hacked the NEST... and got into the home PC... and stole CC numbers. The way it happened... someone bought a NEST at HD, then returned it with the software hacked. Then it was installed at a home and the hacker found it...
Yeah, a lot of circumstances... however:
As a geek pointed out... the hack 'could' spread across the net to all the NEST stats...

IMO it is just NOT SMART to have a wireless network at your home... with a couple of exceptions:
*You own enough acreage you are beyond the reach of your neighbors or someone driving by on the road...
*You are a smart enough geek (not me) who can monitor all the ports of your computer and keep it locked down...
*You have literally NOTHING in/on your box worth taking (no CC#, no online banking passwords, no online trading software, etc).
For me... the convenience of WIFI is not worth the risk... Have been without WIFI for close to 10 years.

I have been using Zorin for about 3 months now.
Not one glitch. Pretty happy with it for now.
I'll be testing some serious tests on it on my vacation and see how it fares.
For a basic internet user this is very very very low learning curve.

Most of the time the "Connection" needs a modem "wireless" password to access the internet.
I bet when you find that and where to stick the password it will let you in.

How far is the computer from the modem?
Lowes has the cable and connectors and also pre-made cables.

Ray I would need about 150ft of cable unless I start drilling holes in walls, Gabor is right I don't want to learn programming or command line stuff, I have enough to keep me busy, nevermind driving 100 miles each day.
If it is not plug and play I am not interested, I wont get to it this week for sure, I have other issuesthat have come up and need to be resolved right away.

hey Gabor , I decided to give Zorin 9.1 a try, I have found some good things and some not so great about it. the file manager works better then the kali linux. but I have had the program lock up 3 times today when trying to run X-plane flight sim in wine. now my system will boot 3 operating systems.

Virtual box! Not wine. Load in all the max settings and you are good to go.

I am running the Gnome2 desk top, only thing that sucks is it won't add desk tops, it's limited to 4. not sure why, in the setting it shows it lets ya add more, then does nothing.

I do like the file manager better on Zorin then I do kali.

also when I installed Kaddressbook, it did not work right. who knows maybe it did not install right. still playing with things.

I FINALLY upgraded from WinXP to Win7Pro/64... BIG improvement.
Part of it was a buggy (old) install... the other part was XP is just out of date.

Like the new Windoz.

One of these days.... will look at Linux.

Well I tried...I downloaded and installed xubuntu, and cant access the internet or any of my files .
So I downloaded Zorin on a disc, cant install it, so I tried to remove xubuntu and cannot uninstall it.
Back to using win 7 on a slow ass dell from 2009.

I just moved up to Win7... not a bad move given how buggy XP was.
You may need a fresh install (wipe and rebuild the OS). Be sure to save all your data files first.
Windoz does tend to get buggy all by itself as time goes along.
And a hardwired connection would probably help. Cat wire needs to be less than 100 meters... or put a switch about half way in the line... tends to boost the signal a tiny bit.

May try Linux later... too many projects that need doing now.

Well did you make sure you downloaded the 32 bit or the 64 bit version that your hard drive is formatted to????? The only reason Zorin would not install.

Yes it was the 32 bit, it must have been a bad download or something, it wrote to the disc but I cant even search the disc for the install section or whatever...Could be I am just stoooopid.

However there is bartering one's skills to get things done...

OK first things first. Did the disk burn as a iso image?

Did you have a Md5Sum to check the integrity of the download and disc burn?

Did you burn the disc at the slowest possible speed?

Is your bios set to boot from a disc?
