I found my dad on his shop floor half unconscious and bleeding from a head wound after he fell . I just happened to be getting some plywood stored in his shed for my room addition. He had been out for some time as his blood was dry...but still oozing out above his eye. He was not making sense. He broke his hip and pelvis and will be operated on today.

.

Sorry to hear that Stan , glad you found him as soon as you did

I once heard either a doctor or nurse say that the elderly do not always fall and break their hips like we presume

They think the hip breaks while they are upright and walking , which makes them fall , which then causes further injuries.

Up here with our "free" health care , lots of elderly get hip replacements early on , it has almost become a routine procedure , and in the end "cost less" than if it breaks and they fall .... something like that

I expect your dad will not enjoy being immobile , he is an active guy by the sounds of it , thoughts and prayers for him.

.

Stan when he recovers he needs one of those "Life Alert" alarm systems.
Praying for a speedy recovery.

Thanks for all the comments.....Much better news today.....The doctors consulted over dads xrays and mri's and said he does not need an operation...and he is too old for this anyway. He has a fractured pelvis, femur, and a ball socket....but all are in proper alignment. He starts a month of rehab in a nursing home...then plans are for him and my stepmom to go to Florida as usual.

That is excellent news. You always knew he was a tough guy. That doesn't change ever!

Dad has a blood clot in his leg. No pulse there. If not dissolved in 24 hours, may have to amputate.

I gave dad his first wheel chair ride in the hospital yesterday. He is so weak and not the same person that so enjoyed his gyro ride this summer. Something told me that was his last great moment in life...

That has to be brutal. But think of the joy and the smile on his face when Greg landed with him. He did get to do that after all. Will keep him in our thoughts and prayers. He is a tough man even at age 93. He will pull through as always....
