.

I have followed the global warming news propaganda for years .... for the simple reason I could smell a bunch of political motives under the surface

Fact: .... the planet has warmed 0.8 C. degrees in the past 100 years , that is all !!!!

....... 140 years ago there was a period when temperatures were as warm as today
..... Global warming has plateaued for the last 17 years .... now they say the oceans ate the warming
.... unbelievable what they can come up with

It is the socialist dream to control and tax the exhaust pipes and smokestacks of the world .... it is a backdoor way of controlling energy and prosperity ,

I love the fact that the planet has refused to obey the predictions of the socialists ..

Nah! The liberals won't be satisfied unless they can put back that mile thck slab of ice and snow that Chicago and surrounding area once had.
I read an article where Last week Gore tried to serve ice cream at a global warming summit on the coldest day on record for that area for that day in August. Or was it in July?

Lets not forget that glaciers around the world have started to disappear in the last 70 years or so.
Lets not forget that ice now covers less water than since the end of the last ice age.
Lets not forget that thousands of people have had to move to other areas because of the rising sea level.

Something has and is in the process of changing around the world, that is beyond what are forefathers have experienced.....

Yeah like I said Chicago is missing it's glaciers. Now how much has the USA or man had to do with that? One in Sweden has receded to the point a cave with man made tools were found. Psst. The tools did not come from Ace Hardware. :laughing

Antarctica's ice area is growing. The magnetic pole is moving . Earth's axis has shifted. The sun is at a record low peak of activity. The there is the apogee and perigee of our orbit coinciding with a season that would make the climate be warmer or cooler than usual. It has happened before. It will happen again. Plus I don't trust the data when the thermometer is 10 feet from black pavement. Hardly anyone is using a Stevenson screen box anymore in the prescribed manner. I bet half of the weather forecasters or "Climate Scientists" know what the hell one is!

Who? Tybee Island is still where it has always been. Soil and beach erosion is not rising sea level.

Well yeah.....Noah didn't have a big screen TV on that yacht either.
There was "the year without a summer."
What I have seen reported I've seen before with Chet Huntley, Davis Brinkley, Harry Reasoner, Dave Garoway, Howard K. Smith, Frank Reynolds. Years of drought and years of record rain, snow, hurricanes.....by the way what happened to the 15 or so hurricanes they predicted each of the last 5 years.
They have been using faked data and given it to a gullible public. Using a program they won't share us to see how they came up with their predictions.
And you can keep your doctor if you like your doctor.
NOW! Ask me why I am skeptical.

Oh, I could have some fun with this post...

One comment: Folks that build their houses close to large bodies of water (specifically oceans); take full responsibility for their choices. If they built on higher ground... would they have to move?
Seems to me the whiners want to make irresponsible decisions... then blame someone else and force someone else to pay for their bad choices.
Somehow, I just do not see how that is gonna work in the long run... other than a handful of really LOUD and CHILDISH whiners having all the gold, at the expense of the folks who earned it.
Now for the whiners (small minority)... that is a good deal. For the rest of us (the folks who worked for it)... that is really not a good deal.

There are many islands in the South Pacific where people have lived for centuries but have lost so much land in the last ~20 years that the people have had to move elsewhere due to sea level rise.

I was not talking about changes this year or the last five years.....I was talking about the changes in the last 70 years compared to past centuries.
I'm not saying these changes are due to global warming.
They may be due to something entirely different and very weird....but there are changes happening and some will not or cannot see a forest for the trees.

When I made the comment above... I was referring to folks in the USA who buy expensive beach houses... then complain and expect the govt (read that someone else) to pay when they have environmental issues.

I have a friend that has a beach house on Cap SanBlas in Florida... he has owned it for 15+ years. Every so often, the govt comes along (at a HUGE expense) and replenishes the beach...
Yes, the beach erodes. He laughs about it... he says some of the folks down there think it a 'right' that someone else should up the $millions so a couple hundred folks can have a nice beach.

I seriously wish someone would put up $millions so my life would be nicer... I guess I have not yet figured out how to come up with a political way to guilt the rest of the country into paying for my good feelings (yet)... :)

Not fussing or picking on anyone... just relaying my opinion of common sense.

3/10ths of an inch washes an island away?
Dang where's my inner tube?

There has been relatively little sea level change Ray from year 1880 back some 2000 years.....but it has risen ~8.4" from 1880 till today and has been accelerating each year.
Sea level rise since 1880 has been taken by tide gauges and their readings have been verified by satellite measurements over the last fifteen years.

You would have a different perspective if you lived on the same island that has been populated by your ancestors for centuries and now is being flooded and you need to move. Where do thousands of people move to? It is also happening on low-lying coastlines all over the world....where will they all go?

And the sea level will most likely continue to rise regardless of how many people hide their heads in the sand.
I really don't think man has the ability to stop these changes because I believe they are driven by forces beyond the damages caused by mankind....although man may have upset earths delicate balance and started the spiral....

I have read that one major volcanic eruption puts out more so-called "green House" gasses in one day than all the automobiles do in five years.
When earth's nature decides to off us there is not a damn thing we can do about it no matter how green we get.

I don't know where you live but if you are ever in Florida and traveling from Daytona to Tampa I want you to look left and right out your car window and see what I saw that made me think about ocean levels.
There is beach sand all the way from Daytona to Tampa right there in the middle of the state. Now how did it get there? I live about 12 miles south of what is called the "Fall Line." When we dig water wells sharks teeth come up with the sand. Now what the hell is sharks teeth doing under my feet 200 miles inland?
All the evidence points to this land was once under the ocean. As cyclic as the earth and sun is it would be arrogant to say we can stop that by limiting our output of green house gasses when a volcanic could wipe out our 5 year effort in one day.
It is inevitable.
When? Al Gore said the northern Arctic ice sheet would be gone in 2015. Arrogant piss ant.
Oh and carbon dioxide should not be called a pollutant. We would be dead without.

The Gases of Life are Not Pollutants
By Viv Forbes

Our atmosphere contains the four gases of life – nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor, and carbon dioxide.

Nitrogen is the most abundant gas-of-life in the atmosphere (78%). It is an essential building block of amino acids present in all proteins. It is a very stable, unreactive gas, but micro-organisms in the soil and some plants are able to extract nitrogen from the atmosphere, making it available to growing plants. Lightning also manages to oxidize some atmospheric nitrogen.

Oxygen is the second most abundant gas-of-life in the atmosphere (21%). Every animal absorbs oxygen with every breath, using it to fuel bodily digestion of the foods animals eat. This process builds bodies and provides the energy of muscles. In the great oxygen cycle, plants extract oxygen from carbon dioxide and exhale it to the atmosphere for animals to breathe.

Water vapor is the third most abundant gas-of-life in the atmosphere (varies up to 5%). Water vapor is part of the great water cycle, where water is evaporated into the atmosphere from salty seas, surface water, and plants. Rain and snow return it to the surface supply of fresh water. No animals, plants, or sea creatures could exist without water.

Water vapor is the most effective “greenhouse gas” in the atmosphere, with far more effect than carbon dioxide. It reduces incoming solar radiation by day and reduces surface cooling at night. Water is also a global temperature stabilizer – heat is transferred from oceans and land as latent heat by evaporation, forming clouds that often cool the surface.

Finally, carbon dioxide is the least abundant gas-of-life in the atmosphere (0.04%) – just a trace, but a vitally important trace. No plants could exist on Earth without carbon dioxide, and no animals could exist without plants. Plants extract carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to form proteins, sugars, and carbohydrates, and animals add essential minerals to turn these into protein, fat, sinews, and bones. The carbon from carbon dioxide is the building block for all life on Earth, for every bit of organic material, and for every carbon fuel – oil, gas, and coal.

Carbon dioxide is a “greenhouse gas” that tends to retain some surface warmth, but there is no evidence in ancient or modern temperature records to suggest that carbon dioxide is a dominant factor controlling global temperature.

None of these natural gases is toxic to life under any feasible atmospheric conditions, but all can be toxic above certain levels. For carbon dioxide, toxic effects on humans don’t even begin until it is fifty times the present atmospheric level – our exhaled breath is 100 times current levels in the atmosphere.

No thinking person could class any of these gases as an atmospheric pollutant – they are all naturally occurring, non-toxic, essential gases of life. Together they make up 95% of the human body, which is effectively 68% carbon dioxide. So if carbon dioxide is a pollutant, the human body is badly polluted.

You know Ray....I think we agree far more than disagree ;-).

Yes, Florida and the mid USA up almost to Detroit was under salt water at least twice in the past. By the way, Ohio has sea shells too.
Each time after high water, a new ice age began.....and the water receded.
Shoot, we all could die awhile after a super-volcano shuts off the suns rays for years.

But truthfully, I really like things as they are now.....not dark....not high water.....certainly not another ice age.
Whatever is coming, is coming and no amount of denial will change that fact.

Just in case.....mankind should be actively involved in finding a new world and the means to get there.
As in the past, many benefits and jobs will come from such research.....
