It seems we are going to have a late Bensen Days next year. ALL YOU TAX GUYS WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE IT!!!!Sooooo it looks as if Sun N Fun is really late into the April. Bensen Days will fall on 11-18 of April. It is never too early to plan ahead.

Oh great it will be hotter than blazes in April down in Florida.....Maybe next year I wont have to bring a jacket, raincoat, or umbrella. That's like an extra pair of to get your gyro projects done before the fly in.!!!!

Question Why can't B.D. be the last week of March? B.D.s IMHO should be the first fly-in out of the box. Also IMHO there would be less likely hood of rain. OK done with IMHO.....

I'm still looking for a bit of the BD history, like: When was the first Bensen Days? Where was the first Bensen Days? When did it move to Wauchula? What year(s) did Igor Visit? Who else of note visited (besides me ) This is tied, of course, to the history of Sunstate. We need to document this stuff before the folks who know aren't around to tell someone.

Jon I have asked for it on the forum I have sent out e-mails and nothing got back to me. Unfortunately I am waaaaayyyy to new to the whole thing to even know the past. I don't know what else to do but ask the ones who do know the history.

Well that's not really something we could copy and paste to the website's history column....... We kind of need a nice rounded up writing of it instead of 2 sentences of happenings at a time....

I'll ask Chuck to write it up next time I see him and post it on the forum...either one and copy and paste from which ever to be used as official history. In his words. Hopefully.

Chuck did tell you how and when Bensen Days came about!! 06-13-2014, 07:07 PM C. Beaty;575288 wrote: The origin of Bensen Days:
EA VanHouten and I, along with several other gyronuts, attended a “Curtis Pitts Day” flyin at a grass strip in Plymouth, Fl in 1972.
Van said; “Why don’t we have a “Bensen Day” flyin?”
I didn’t think much of the idea at the time but Van kept wheedling until I said; “I’ll look into it.” I talked to several well know individuals in gyros and most thought it might be a good idea and agreed to attend.
Our first “Bensen Days” was held at Dunnellon, Fl in 1973 as near as possible to April 1, Dr. Bensen’s birthday.
I don’t think there were any more “Curtis Pitts Day” flyins and evidently the Plymouth landing strip no longer exists; at least Google can’t find it.

July 4 sit down with Chuck Beaty, Ernie, Bud etc. and interview them and take notes. You are not likely to get what you are looking for on a forum!!

I remember reading the history of Bensen Days but I can't find it now. That may have been at Bensendays.com but it's a broken link now. There is a bit of info here: http://www.bensendays.us.com/about.shtmlhttp://spirit.eaa.org/lightplaneworld/a ... endays.asp

I wrote the stuff on the current Bensen Days site. The information on the old bensendays.com site was very limited and only marginally accurate. I still have it for archival purposes, but it isn't much good for anything else.
Gordon has the right answer. Problem is, someone to do it. Gabor is already covered-up with things he must do, and while important, this isn't something that should interrupt other club operations. I don't mind doing the write-up if I can just get some facts...names, dates and stuff.
