This morning was a great day to go fly ... alas I was tired & dragging & felt I had too much to do around the place!

I heard a "low & slow" aircraft droning right over my "playground" above our home hayfield about 1,000ft AGL.... just a few minutes ago!

It was a very distinctive sound & profile of a WWII vintage warbird .... then I remembered that the B17 "Flying Fortress" restored & used in the movie "Memphis Belle" was in town ... I guess there were some wealthy enthusiasts who forked over $450 for a flight! :half

Yep glad i didn't go flying this morning ... as cool as it would have been to see it from the air & fly nearby... with my recent 'low-time pilot foo-pars " ... the outcome might not have been good! :eek

That is so cool Chris ... did it rattle your windows when it flew over ? ..... did it rattle Jim :) .... tell him hi & I miss him !!!!

That girl did a good job in the video .... when you think of that plane , it was built in the 40's ... flown and crewed by 22-25 year old "kids" in a war they didnt ask for .... and so far has provided us with 70 years of freedom.

Hope your next flight is safe and enjoyable and no bombers around :)

That historic bird of WW2... is based in a suburb of Atlanta... I have gone out there and seen it as well as walked through the cabin.

Imagining what the 'boys' that flew those things went through... is truly humbling.

There was a B-17 giving rides at the Hillsboro Airport just two blocks from my house about two weeks ago .
I wonder if it was the same one ?

Can you imagine sitting in a plexi glass bubble underneath a Bomber while the enemy is trying to blow you out of the air ?

It makes my balls shrivel just thinking about it

I started mowing Mr. Destefanises lawn when I was 12 to pay for my flying lessons .
And who would have thunk it way back then that our friendship would have lasted to the point where I was sitting in his garage with my own Son talking about flying and hunting and shooting and man shit .
My Son and I were with Mr. Destefanis the day he died three years ago .
He was a B-17 pilot in WWII . I sat in his garage for 30 years and two of my generations .
He loved talking about flying , hunting , shooting and man shit but he never talked about the war .
I truly miss him .
