Got back from Bensen Days, gyro flew well while there. Had some trailering damage to the gyro, broken rear windshield, got all that fixed, went to go take Mama flying yesterday and started the gyro and prop was not spinning as fast as usual? So I am thinking "clutch" took gearbox apart. Found 1 bearing bad, cage was gone and laying in bottom of gearbox, clutch is broken, and the main prop shaft gear nut had backed off and the gear was spinning on the shaft.. Last time I flew it all seemed fine.... Back to chasing down parts..

The 1st Jet Exec used a Rotax C box - The nut came loose and had no power on the output (prevents prop strikes from damaging the crank) Dave ground a flat on the shaft for a D washer to lock the nut, No more loose nuts..
Did Rotax design the same feature in your engine?

Its the Yamaha engine with an SPG-4 russian gearbox, no locking feature, I am going to do the washer and bend it over 2 flats for sure. Paul Wagner here in Georgia says he has parts, so I will get it all cleaned up and see exactly what I need, I was worried that I would not be able to get parts with all the ukraine/russia BS going on.

Els, if your woman is anything like mine and I had to cancel a flight because of that kind of stuff, She would be reeeeal leary about going up with me even after I fixed it...
It wasn't my gearbox, but I once lost my prop on takeoff with her and all her friends watching....my hero status was degraded to zero status on the spot.

Thinking about just getting another gearbox rather than repairing this one. Shooot Benry, I work in the Airline biz.....canceled flights are a daily activity..

Yeah ok I found a gearbox, Paul has one thank goodness, as shipping from Belarus is lengthy to say the least (9-15 months)..... Just getting tired of experimenting and tinkering all the time....looked at some cool gyros at Bensen Days, Mama was impressed with the kalithea gyro, especially since it had heat, but at $145K, another $25k I could have a helicopter.!!!... I want to love my Tango 3 cyl Yamaha, but it needs to show me it can be trusted, I would hate to have to go to the "dark side: (rotax)..100hp rotax is marginal on a 2 place. Greg Spicolas 145hp Edge powered American Ranger was very sweet. $$$

Rummaging through my parts the other day I found 2 blades for a 68" powerfin prop. I think I will get another blade and at least have a spare prop if anything happens to the one I have now. (big ding in prop at Bensen days) Don't worry Benry, I still have all the blades for the 66" powerfin that was damaged.
