All I could find out is that they are going to use a rotax 912, did they drop the D-motor?
"Due to the enormous demand for a Rotax engine in the Lightning, Niki Rotor Aviation has decided it is necessary to make the conversion to meet our customers’ needs. We are finalizing the tests of the redesigned Lightning powered by a Rotax 912."

They prolly realised no one can afford to pay $250k for one and it cant even be insured? and anyone willing to spend that amount of $ would be able to afford a heli of similar size that they can insure:noidea :wol2 :Wolvie

The setup is the most susceptible to harmonic vibration.... it is an pure unsupported cantilever, doing work in all directions whilst being shaken constantly by harmonic vibration from the rotors, prerotator and the motor and prop.... as well as all the various gyroscopic loads.... and everything is focused right where the prop is. Scary! :ugeek:

Great/fantastic idea, but I wouldn't trust it personally.... depending on what the construction of the boom is. :eek

Especially because you cant see inside it without regular dismantling :badluck You will know very quickly if it fails tho :eek :drama :yoda2 :Wolvie

I don't like it because all of the stress is at the back at the mast junction. Another unsupported cantilever.

Get a shop stapler (manual one) and hold it by the top and see how easy it is to pop it open with weight on the bottom half :eek :badluck

Just a purty ornament I guess?

Here is another gyro with the boom thru the prop... got the pic off google, evidently it was for sale on the other forum... :pop :wol2 :Wolvie
