Post subject:  Flying the Titanium - a quick flight

Today I was lucky enough to fly the Titanium!!!!!
Des let me know that he was delivering Danny's white Titanium to Wauchula, so I did not need a second invitation to go down and check it out. Danny was gracious enough to allow me to go have a quick flight with Des - awesome.
As advertised, this gyro is beautifully made with so many little details.
Getting the blade on was very simple - just installing the hub bar first and then one blade at a time -nice.
The gyro is much more spacious than the MTO, and comes standard with a nice plush seat cushion. Danny's machine is a 912, and does not have the rear instrument package, but a handy glove box instead.
The machine sits higher than the MTO, and the front door is pretty much a necessity.
Much wider and more roomy than the MTO.
So I had a quick flight around the patch in the front seat. Controls are quite similar to the MTO. The blade is the same length as the MTO but with a significantly wider cord.
Blade came up to speed very quickly and we were off the ground very quickly. More stick shake than I expected, but Des still has some adjusting to do. The blade definitely generates a lot of lift, and in slow flight one could feel her hanging there a bit.
Also on landing there was definitely more of a tendency to float than I am used to, but very manageable and forgiving, particularly with that innovative front wheel setup.
My first landing I was coming in a little high so we did a go around, but the second I pretty much greased in.
Quick impressions are that this is a very, comfortable, nice flying, cruising machine. The light weight, more lift in the blade, definitely gets one off the ground pretty quickly. Did not feel quite as sporty as the MTO, but I'm sure in the right hands, every bit as capable. This is definitely a great cruising machine and it was clearly built with that in mind. I can see myself in one of these.....on floats. Thanks Des and Danny. A little video and some pics.

That's awesome Jeff... thanks for the report.... I have been waiting to hear your opinion on the Titanium :koolaid

Did you check there was no cat in one of the rotors? :laughing :laughing

I don't know why people want the weight and expense of full instruments in the back of a tandem, all they need is a $50 reversing camera with the screen in the back and the camera looking at the front instruments :noidea :laughing :laughing

You just have to make sure the image is reversible (some reversing cameras show you back to front/what you see in the mirror) If you have one that can show a normal positive view, a 7" screen in the back and you can see what is going on.... :like :wol2 :Wolvie

But, is it Far Superior?

And with those side pods, room for the "pocket fisherman" ! LOL.

Wow Lofty you sit low in that one, lots of wind protection, you might need a booster cushion
:rofl :boink .

For training particularly, rear seat instruments are nice. This machine had a nice glove box in the back. I think a great option would be to fit an ASI into the side of the glovebox, and have an iPad mount. Then the rear seat would pretty much have all the instruments it needs. The rear stick on this is the same as the front with pre rotator etc, so not meant to be removeable like the MTO. I think this is the best touring open tandem yet, particularly at the competitive price with MTO. One has to give the MTO credit, clearly he thinks it's a great design or he would hardly have copied it so closely. This machine is really pulling away from brands like the Apollo. I think also at the price point, for those who want a machine hat probably feels a little closer to a Magni, this gyro becomes a no brainer over a Magni, which starts to look kind of 'old-fashioned'.

Yeah Lofty, but if there is a camera the size of a sharpie cap looking at the instrument panel and a small screen in front of the back seat beefcake, he can see all of the instruments for the weight of a small screen and camera (phuck all) :laughing :laughing :Wolvie

Yep I should have caught that. Six weeks basically on the road is killing my funny bone.
