Apparently the engine quit. This happened tonight over there. He survived the crash but was airlifted with very serious injuries. |

MadMuz wrote: The machine doesn't look to be too badly damaged? Well if you are standing next to a helicopter and the rotorhead is below your eye level.....it is bad! It means the under carriage has not only collapsed but your spinal chord is toast! Ask Hilly. |

Neat looking machine.... I hope he is ok to rebuild it and continue soon... is the pilot the builder or just the test pilot for the builder? I like the 'sexperimental' written on it |

No he was only a pilot. Pretty experienced too..... He was on the radio saying that a red light came on and that was the last transmission on the radio from him. The builder is trying to figure out what had happened as we speak. |

I'll say... no good at all It is a good reminder to all of us about what is under our seats.... I have seen seat mounts on gyros that if one has a splat landing from a vertical to the ground or a REALLY heavy landing.... if the seat supports bolts fail, the uprights would go thru the back of the pilots legs (and out the front) You need to think where the seat will go and where what is holding it in place will go in a failure.... have the seat mounts bent in such a way a real big vertical jolt will allow it to collapse without stabbing the occupant.... and that if the seat drops any distance, that the pilot don't get trapped or injured from the seatbelts tightening when the seat drops down.... my ex-mother in law T boned a light pole on the passenger side right at the pillar, bent the car like a banana.... her seatbelt tightened and she couldn't push the button to release it.... she broke her sternum and 7 ribs broke off at her spine and she was trapped for 20 minutes until someone found her |
