TitaniumAutoGyro carbon composite rotor ... in extreme stress testing.... Neils brief email report...... & picture!


"Some additional test done yesterday on blades ,

The required flexion test was done with a safety factor of 3.25 needing a load of 40.5 KG .

We then kept loading the blade to see what would happen and they took it up to over 660 Kg and still couldn’t break the blade

They then did a shear load test on the root end of the blade and exceeded 2055 KG and couldn’t break the blade , this would normally be negligible in flight because everything is relying on centrifugal force not shear , but just goes to show the strength of the blade .

If you had a aluminium blade you could not reach anywhere near these test figures .

An unrealistic 'test' the whole machine would of quit flying long before the loads would get that high.

High cyclic low load test would suite it better.

resonance with airframe / cyclic fatigue more of a problem not outright strength. :bunny

You are quite correct Hillbilly, however, even tho it will be physically impossible for the rotors to be in this predicament in flight (bar in a crash) I think it is comforting to know that the rotors themselves are that tough....Knowing Neal, all of the centrifugal and other normal load testing will follow and be equally as thoroughly tested..... Neal is very methodical in his approach to everything, by the time he is prepared to release the rotors for sale, he will know every single imaginable figure as to their performance whether stationary, turning on the ground or in flight.... I think that is a good thing, as I am sure anyone purchasing (or thinking of purchasing) a Titanium will agree :like :laughing :wol2 :Wolvie

Knowing how detail-orientated a guy is Neil & those blade guys ( manf for helo rotors) ..... those other tests were LONG done!!!!!
