Bud O'Neal used to talk about a gyroplane event called "The Happening," that was designed as not-a-fly-in. The intent was to invoke a fly-in without the entanglements of a typical, planned, large-scale event. People got the word and it just happened.

This past Saturday, I believe Peach State managed a recreation of that process. We had planned to go "show the flag" at an EAA burger cookout at Carrollton, Georgia, but it got re-venued at the last moment to somewhere in Alabama. With almost no notice, we threw together our own cookout at Cedartown. It was awsome. First, because the weather was great, and second, though most important, the people were amazing. Besides the Peach State club, we had the meat bomb pilots from the Skydiving outfit, the airport manager and even fixed-wing EAA folks from as far away as Fort Payne.

The food was good, the flying was superb and it was a positive gyroplane event for the airport and the community as a whole. My hope in starting this thread that Gerald and the other shutterbugs will post some of the pictures.

I love the spontaneous get togethers. They usually beat the long drawn and long planned ones. If nothing else weather can screw it up.We sure do love pictures and videos. Especially the ones Gerald shoots. He has a great eye (s) for it. Nice and slowly as we inch into the flying habit here in DeLand we might even consider doing something out of the ordinary with our Northern South brothers and sisters. The opportunities are endless. :) We welcome pics!!!! UHUMUHUM.....John Morgan!!!!If there are no pictures.....well ya know the rest...... :wol2 :wol2 :wol2

A simple thank you would have been enough for the morning coffee without all that "how did you get in here" nonsense.

Yes, sometimes the 'spontaneous' gatherings are as good if not better than the planned ones... usually there is less drama also... :)

I want to commend the idea and follow-through of inviting the jump plane pilots for lunch. If there is one issue that could really cause grief at Cedartown, it is the 'casual attitude' of the jump pilots, and the difficulty of seeing a gyro in flight. The potential for a seriousl or fatal accident is there... thankfully it has not happened.
Building relationships between the folks who use CedarTown field is a good thing... everyone wins when we do that!

On the pictures thing... I did not take a camera this time. I actually had 3 events to attend Saturday, Cedartown was the middle one.
I did see Gerald running around with his video, as well as many others making cell phone pics and video's... I am sure they will turn up one at a time.

Gabs, you are gonna have to bum a ride in a FW up here next time we have a gathering... :)
