I stumbled across this the other day, http://www.vortechonline.com/specials/p ... yro_lh.htm So beside the obvious dissadvantage of less aerodynamic streamlining, why do we not see more S&S gyros? I thought heck you could sit in the middle (not with seat tanks) and put your feet on the outer pedals when flying solo... Just thinking..... |

I think it would be lighter without all the additional length of the airframe? I may be wrong, I need to check into this....... |

Stan V has a very nice old RAF, BUT he said it is really under powered. Wonder what it would look like CLT. http://www.rotaryforum.com/forum/classi ... e=raf-2000 |

Scott- My RAF had a 2.2 and I thought it did quite well will average sized passenger and my big butt. I hauled my 270 pound son , on a 85 degree day and it flew but not much climb rate. Stan |

I just need to go ahead and start this build, otherwise I will redesign it a hundred times in my head, My Wife and I will weigh in together under 300lbs, so I don't want to build a dreadnought class gyro, She likes side by side, but the tandem seems to be more popular, perhaps easier to build? flys better solo? Just kicking around Ideas......I think I am A.D.D.. |

I like a side by side too. One "problem" is dissimilar human weight. On a teetering head gyro, if the pilot is 200 lb and the passenger is 100 lb, the airframe will appear to be in a slight banking turn. Also, if a pusher, the prop receives more burbly air than with a tandem seat gyro. Heheh.....Gabi, you aren't right (in the head)! Added: I agree with Elwood on the weight.....the normal tandem gyro has a longer keel and a added seat, plus the added vertical support bars for the extended keel. The side by side has a heavier seat and a bit more beef in the two overhead mast side plates....unless the mast tilts forward. |
