 Fuel in the airframe
Author Message
Has anyone experimented with sealing a gyro's airframe to be the fuel tank for a part 103 gyro instead of using a separate fuel tank or seat tank? :noidea

I have my own ideas but I would like to hear the why and why not's of this idea from others.

I don't think you can store more than a couple of gallons of fuel using your longest pieces on the gyro. Can't really seal up mast if you have to drill it..... I don't want to sound negative but a 5 gallon plastic tank is really not much extra weight......

Just exploring the possibilities....

Could you use 2 or 3 inch round tube for the frt main keel and mast complete

with a bend in it so no holes except to seal up the ends and a supply hole and vent hole in the fuel supply cap?

maybe use 4130 unless 6061 t-6 round tube or square and be bent w/o it causing structural
issues.

Visual example in this Single Seat Arrow Copter clone drawing.

Where would you put the fuel pickup that would "pickup" with a lot of yanking and banking?

I suppose where ever it would need to be to work...possibly a fuel pump would need to be employed as well. Redundancy is good.

I can add that to the list of problems needing to be worked out. Thankx.

Most of these designs have the fuel tank built into the mast.
