Received a phone call, ID was +234567890 Guy said they received monitoring alerts that there was malware on my computer, wanted me to connect to some website. I asked him how he was getting alerts from my computer. He said it was from the monitoring software on my computer and he tried to allude to Microsoft. So I asked him what my computer's IP address was. He mumbled something trying to avoid the question by again stating that he was getting alerts that I have malware on my computer. I responded that if he was receiving alerts from my computer that he would have to have the IP address of my computer so I wanted to know which computer he was talking about. He then said 192.168.0.2 so I said bad guess you're on the wrong subnet. He hung up on me. If someone calls and says you have malware, say thank you and hang up (unless you want to have some fun with them like I did). If you follow their instructions you will definitely end up with malware and they will own everything on your computer.

Just for the folks who do not know...
192.168.0.0 (or a variation of this with a single digit in the last position)... is the address to get into the software of your LAN router sitting on your desk at your home. That is NOT an IP address anyone out there could use to get into your computer from outside your home.
I wish someone would keep them on the line with BS long enough to trace where the call is coming from (specific location), then go to FOXX news and DEMAND our govt have a word with India. If our govt does not respond... this could be yet another campaign issue...

Unfortunately our White House doesn't have a word with China, for stealing everything, with Mexico for human and drug trafficking, with Afghanistan and Iran for killing Americans and sponsoring Jihad, with Russia to stop hacking into our banks, with North Korea to stop sucking Dennis Rhodman's.......anyways ...... and on and on....I just don't see it happening even when we have proof!

Just my opinion and my $0.02 worth... (hey, we need an icon for $0.02--2 pennies would work)... News stories are unpredictable. One which 'should' be relevant, dies on the vine (airwaves)... while another that seems irrelevant develops a life of its own and becomes front page. Seems to me if there was endless smoking guns for endless things the current administration was doing... Sooner or later a few of those smoking guns would catch the eye of the public... Hopefully the reality of the blatant dishonesty and usury of the white house, by its occupant, would become a national issue. Hopefully anyway... IMO politics is a game of numbers... If enough folks fuss about something... it gets attention. So IMO what we need to do is fuss a lot...

Yes, 192.168.x.x is part of class C private addressing. The first x is generally referred to as the subnet and you are correct that most routers use the 0 subnet by default. When I set up private networks I use subnets between 10 and 250. If he had guessed the right subnet I would have been real curious. When I asked him for the IP address he knew that he wasn't likely to succeed in infecting my computer. If you have outside monitoring they will have the IP if the computer (the private internal address) as well as the external public IP address. Since I do not have a monitoring contract with anyone I knew he wasn't likely to have either and he guessed a common linksys default address hoping I didn't really know what I was talking about. His guess shows the lengths they will go to to CON people. I don't want the government protecting me from anything.

We know this... but it is fun to post: Polecats are like diapers... they need to be changed often... for the same reason... they get full of shit. We are thawing out up here... by Sunday the evidence of recent weather will almost be gone. Was nice to take a few days off and fiddle with stuff at my home... Hope to get out to the hanger and fiddle with the gyro this Sunday. OTOH: my n/gas bill will be a bit rough when it comes.

Too bad we don't have a fund whereby we can hire mercenaries to travel the earth seeking these dipshits out and then "convincing" them they shouldn't be doing such. Then a "post convincing" training session in setting broken bones paid for by a small fee so that the computers they corrupted can be restored to it's original condition. I'd contribute. Especially if I got to see the results.
