Cool video on how Denis makes his Razor blades. Very cool.

Denis signed a dealer contract with SC not to reverse-engineer the Sport Rotors, but did so anyway.
I was pretty hot about that in Summer 2019 as SC COO, and that JV had explained far too much of the build process to Denis over the phone.
I warned JV that Denis was now "eating out of our food bowl".

Since I used to help out in the Sport Rotor department of the SC shop, I can say that Denis has made some significant improvements in both the construction process and in the rotor design, and his turnaround time is only 2 weeks. He has yet to apply epoxy paint on his blades, and I'd loathe trying to keep bare aluminum polished, but they seem a very good product. The blade tracking indexed jackscrew in the teeter tower is a real improvement over the SC design.

Denis seems highly organized, tidy, and efficient...which I consider prerequisites for aviation business success. And, he actively markets at fly-ins.
Once he paints his blades, and offers 8-8.5" chord up to 30', he is poised to capture nearly 100% of the gyro blade market.

One thing so true about the gyro-world ...is that the competition WILL ALWAYS - adopt, reverse-engineer and "steal" the best design ideas & features!

Silverlight - got a detailed look at our TAG front-suspension that was unique to our gyro in 2015 ...and made their own version.

Gyro Jake and Denis both adopted the pitch-roll block design of SC.

I'm not sure what to think about the very secret ELA ...jump take-off mechanism ...always covered up & not yet publicly demonstrated. VERY Expensive & no fly-in event demos ...yet! If a pilot can't get a feel of it ...how do they expect to sell it????

I believe - when one manufacturer drops the ball as with SC ...and another rising star comes along - GO FOR IT ... no harm no FOUL! Great job Denis - making more improvements over previous designs!

True, and I get that, but what offended me in 2019 as SC COO was that Denis had signed a dealer agreement not to reverse-engineer the technology. Whereas, merely looking at a competitor's rotor head or NW and then adopting their (unpatented) idea is not a violation of any contract. For me, it was a matter of business ethics. When I sign something (or even have a handshake deal), I honor it.

I empathize with that to some extent; I just didn't like the way it began. I'm far too jaded with SC to care about it anymore, though. Gyro safety is important to me, and I'm pleased that Razor Blades add to it while keeping smaller gyros flying. So, I've mixed feelings about it all, and likely always will. I feel bad for Gene V. at SC, who makes their Sport Rotors, as he and I worked well together.
